Seven Yankton Bucks Football players have been selected as All-State honorees for Class 11-AA, led by an All-American selection for linebacker Matthew Sheldon.
Along with Sheldon, Quarterback Easton Nelson, Running Back Evan Serck, Wide Receiver Carson Ness, Offensive Lineman Lucas Cordell, and Returner Connor Slaba were selected. Bryce Kral was selected as one of two “athletes” for the All-State team.
Along with the All-State honorees, Cale Haselhorst was selected as an Honorable Mention. The Bucks finished the 2024 campaign with an 8-3 record, advancing to the Class 11-AA Semi-Finals.
All seven of Yankton’s All-State selections were seniors, with honorable mention Cale Haselhorst as the lone junior.
Mount Marty Men’s Basketball improved to 6-2 last night with a 72-47 rout of Hastings inside Cimpl Arena.
Tash Lunday scored 28 points to lead the Lancers, eclipsing 1,000 career points for MMU on a three-pointer to end the first half.
The Lancer men return to the hardwood on Saturday, hosting York inside Cimpl Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
Mount Marty Women’s Basketball fell to 6-4 last night with a 75-60 loss to Hastings in Yankton.
Four Lancers scored in double figures. Stevi Fallis tallied 13, Kaela Martinez had 12, Alexus Motley finished with 11, and Sidney Thue had 10.
The Lancer women have an extended break over the Thanksgiving holiday, returning to action next Wednesday against Doane.
South Dakota Coyotes Defensive Lineman Mi’Quise Grace has been named one of thirty-five finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the FCS Defensive Player of the Year.
Grace, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, ended the regular season leading the Missouri Valley Football Conference in tackles for loss with 17 and sacks with 9.5, playing in 11 games.
The 2024 Buck Buchanan Award winner will be announced at the STATS Perform FCS National Awards Banquet on January 4 in Frisco, Texas.
South Dakota Volleyball claimed the Summit League Tournament Championship last night with a 3-2 win over South Dakota State, punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
Kylen Sealock led the Coyote attack with 23 kills, followed by Cheyenne Hlady with 18. Amanda Loschen recorded 6 total blocks, 3 of which were solo.
Sealock was named Tournament MVP following the match. Sealock recorded 46 kills during the tournament, as the Coyotes went 9-2 in set victories, including a pair of 3-0 sweeps of Omaha and Kansas City.
South Dakota Men’s Basketball is on the road in Lincoln, Nebraska tonight to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

South Dakota Women’s Basketball picked up their third straight win yesterday, defeating Dayton 79-69.
Grace Larkins posted 32 points and 7 rebounds to lead USD, while Alexi Hempe tallied a career-high in points with 23, adding a team-high 8 rebounds.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball claimed 3rd place in the Cayman Islands Classic yesterday with a 75-55 win over Missouri State.
Oscar Cluff led SDSU with a 20-point 12-rebound double-double. Kalen Garry was 2nd in scoring with 9 points, followed by Matthew Mors and Owen Larson with 8.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball wrapped up the Hawaii North Shore Showcase last night with a 75-70 win over Oregon.
Four Jackrabbits scored 10+ points in the win, led by Brooklyn Meyer with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Paige Meyer added 16 points and 4 assists.
Next up for SDSU is a road game against Ball State on Sunday. Tip-off from Muncie, Indiana is scheduled for noon central.
