The Yankton City Commission has approved changes to its code of ordinances.
Yankton City Manager, Amy Leon, says that the changes include how commissioners can bring something forward to a meeting agenda, as well as a change for the commission’s regular meeting time.
The commission approved the change with a 5-1 vote, with commissioner Brian Hunhoff voting against it.
The Yankton City Commission meetings will begin on Monday nights at 6 p.m. starting January 13th.
The commission was also presented with the findings of the yearly bridge inspection report that happens within the city.
Lucas Johnson, with Banner Engineering, the company that did the inspection, says that out of the twelve bridges that were inspected, ten were in great condition, while two of which were in poor condition.
Leon says that the two bridges that were graded poorly were the Cedar Street bridge and the 23rd Street bridges.
Leon says that plans call for a total replacement of the 23rd Street bridge in 2026.
The commission also agreed to redesign the space around the Capitol Building and to relocate the holiday tree lighting ceremony to the east side of the building.
Leon says that the redesign will allow for the space to be more accessible.
Leon says that the redesign should be finished before next year’s Holiday Festival of Lights.
