Watertown Man Charged in Shooting at the Yankton High School

A Watertown man has been charged in the officer involved shooting that occurred on December 5th at the Yankton High School.

Andrew Jondahl, 40, has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer for attempting to use a firearm, and one count of Possession of Loaded Firearm While Intoxicated.

According to Special Agent Brian Larson of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, the Yankton Police Department responded to the high school shortly before 8 p.m., where the discovered an intoxicated Jondahl with multiple shotguns

Larson says that the officers on scene reported that Jondahl’s actions, while armed with a deadly weapon, placed them in fear of imminent serious bodily harm.

Jondahl is currently hospitalized and a warrant for his arrest has been issued.

Jondahl can post bond at $100,000 with conditions of his release including that he refrains from the use or possession of alcohol and drugs without a valid prescription, enrolling in the 24/7 program, having no access to firearms, not contacting the victims, obeying all laws, appearing at all court appearances, and not leaving South Dakota without prior court approval. Jondahl is also restricted from coming within 50 feet of any K-12 school property.
