Watertown Man Indicted in Officer Involved Shooting

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has announced that a Watertown man has been indicted on four charges in connection with an officer involved shooting that occurred December, 5th in the parking lot of the Yankton High School.

Andrew Jondahl, 40, faces charges of Aggravated Assault on A Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of a Firearm While Intoxicated, and one misdemeanor count of Possession of a Firearm on Public Elementary or Secondary School Premises.

According to Jackley, when officers arrived on the scene Jondahl was found in his truck with a gun in his lap. When Jondahl finally exited his vehicle, he was holding two shotguns in his hands, facing the officers in a manner where he could have fired at the officers.

Jackley says that the two officers fired 14 rounds, four of which struck Jondahl, who suffered non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Jackley says that Jondahl tested positive for alcohol with a blood alcohol content level of .152 percent, almost double the legal limit.

Jondahl remains hospitalized and will be processed on his warrant at a later date with his first court appearance to be determined.
