All Yankton High School winter athletics are off for the time being, allowing students a break during the Holiday season.
A brief rundown of each team’s season and their first game back from break are listed below.
Yankton Bucks Basketball is 0-2 to start their season with losses to Sioux Falls Washington, 51-47, and Sioux Falls Lincoln, 69-29.
The Bucks return to the hardwood on December 31st for a road matchup against the Harrisburg Tigers.
Yankton Gazelles Basketball is 0-3 on the year, most recently suffering a 72-33 defeat at the hands of Sioux Falls Washington.
The first game back from break for the Gazelles is a road matchup with the Harrisburg Tigers on New Year’s Eve.
Yankton Bucks Wrestling took home 3rd place as a team in their most recent event, hosted by Sioux Falls Washington.
Damian Janish led Yankton, claiming 1st place at 113 pounds. Also for the Bucks, Devon Coke (126), and Shayce Platt (165) placed 2nd in their classes. Joelton Reimnitz-Hahn (138), Bode Thurman (144), and CorBin Sayler (175) each placed third.
Yankton is off until January 2nd for a triangular with Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brookings in Sioux Falls.
Yankton Gazelles Wrestling also finished 3rd in the last event, hosted by Sioux Falls Washington this past weekend.
Alexis Brenden led the way for Yankton, claiming the 120-pound championship, while Chloe Caton took 3rd at 107.
Yankton is off until January 2nd for a triangular with Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brookings in Sioux Falls.
Yankton Gazelles Gymnastics placed 10th in their last competition before the break, the Jill McCormick Invitational Gymnastics Meet last weekend.
Burkely Olson led the Gazelles with a 20th-place finish in the all-around competition, followed by Avery Portillo in 21st. The Gazelles finished with a score of 131.425.
Yankton is off until their road triangular in Madison on January 6th.
Yankton Bucks Hockey is 7-2 on the year and currently the #1 team in the state standings with 15 points.
Yankton is coming off a 6-2 win in their last match against Watertown. Jack Pedersen currently leads the team in goals with 10, while Tucker Renken leads in assists with 13 and points with 20.
Yankton returns to the ice on Saturday, December 28th for a road game against Huron.
Mount Marty Athletics are currently on a hiatus during the holiday break, with several teams returning to action around the New Year.

Mount Marty Men’s Basketball is 6-7 overall, 3-4 in GPAC play entering the Holiday break.
The Lancers fell to Valley City State in their most recent game, 76-66 last Friday inside Cimpl Arena. The Lancers are currently led by Tash Lunday, who’s averaging 23.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
The Lancer men return to action with an exhibition game in Omaha on December 28th against the Omaha Mavericks.
Mount Marty Women’s Basketball is 6-7 overall, 0-7 in GPAC play, heading into the break.
The Lancers fell to Morningside in their last non-exhibition game, 72-50 on December 14th. Sidney Thue currently leads MMU with 11.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
The Lancer women return to the court on December 31st for an exhibition game against Augustana in Sioux Falls.
Mount Marty Indoor Track and Field has had a pair of meets to start the season, with the last taking place on the 13th and 14th of December.
In their last meet, the Lancers claimed 14 event victories. The Lancer women claimed 10 event wins with the men taking home 4. Zelie Sorensen led the Lancer women with wins in the 60 and 200-meter runs, as well as being part of the 1600-relay team with Alexis Even, Josey Wahlstrom, and Hannah Killinger. Wahlstrom also won the 400-meter run.
Austin Gobel finished 1st in the 200 and 2nd in the 60 for the Lancer men. Logan Ferrari won the 3,000 and Owen Koontz won the 1,000 for MMU. The Lancers finished 1st and 2nd in the 600, with Jacob Kueny in 1st and Carl Massa in 2nd.
The Lancers are off for the Holiday break, with their next meet being the MMU Open on January 11th.
