Victim Identified in Yankton Homicide

The name of the victim in a murder that occurred in Yankton Thursday night has been released.

South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says that Heather Ann Bodden, 41, was found dead in an apartment around 3 p.m. Thursday.

Bodden’s boyfriend, Craig Nichols, 32, has been arrested and charged with Second-Degree Murder, First-Degree Manslaughter, and two counts of contempt of court.

According to court records, three friends of Bodden went to the apartment to check on Bodden after receiving a message from Bodden that Nichols had threatened her with a weapon the day before.

Upon entry into the apartment, the friends discovered Bodden’s decapitated body.

Court records show that Bodden’s head, along with bloody clothes, weapons, and underwear labeled with “Craig N” were found in a trash bag at the victim’s apartment, with surveillance video showing Nichols exiting and entering the apartment multiple times with trash bags.

Nichols is set to appear in court on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Yankton.
