The National High School Athletic Coaches Association announced yesterday that former Yankton Bucks Football coach Arlin Likness would be inducted into their Hall of Fame.

Arlin Likness coached for 38 years at the high school level, leading Hamlin and Yankton during his career. In total, Likness amassed a 261-101 record, putting him 5th all-time in wins.

During his career, Likness led his teams to 7 state championships, 3 at Hamlin and 4 at Yankton.

The Yankton School District announced yesterday that the Yankton Basketball doubleheader against Sioux Falls Christian has been postponed.

The Gazelles will now face the Chargers on Thursday. February 20th in Yankton. Tip-off for the varsity is set for 7:00 PM. Coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 6:30.

The Bucks will make up their game against Sioux Falls Christian on Monday, February 24th in Yankton. Tip-off for the varsity is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

Along with the changes for Yankton Basketball, several other area activities have been affected due to the drastic cold weather.

  • Today’s semifinal games in the Sub-District C2-4 Girls’ Basketball Tournament will no longer be held at the same site, with the high seeds hosting both games at 5:00 PM. Crofton will host Norfolk Catholic while West Holt hosts Ord.
  • The Gayville-Volin at Avon basketball doubleheader, originally scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled. The girls will play Saturday, February 22nd, while the boys will play on Monday, February 24th.
  • The Irene-Wakonda at Bridgewater-Emery basketball doubleheader, scheduled for Tuesday, will now be held on Friday, February 21st.

Mount Marty Women’s Basketball is on the road tonight for a matchup with the College of Saint Mary in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Lancers are 10-16 overall this season with two games remaining. MMU defeated the Flames when the two teams met in Yankton on January 8th, 81-50.

Tip-off from Omaha is set for 6:00 PM tonight. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:15. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.

Yankton High School Golf Coach Brett Sime and Augustana Head Women’s Golf Coach Coralee Jorgensen will be the featured guest speakers at today’s Yankton Quarterback Club meeting at the River Rock Event Center..

A meal will be available to purchase at 11:15 AM with the meeting beginning at noon. The public is invited to attend.

South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball is set to host the St. Thomas Tommies tonight in Vermillion.

The Coyotes look to bounce back from just their 2nd home loss of the season on Sunday, while the Tommies are looking to continue their winning ways, having won 5 of their last 6 games.

Tip-off from the Sanford Coyote Sports Center is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball returns home tonight, hosting the North Dakota State Bison in Brookings.

SDSU has won 8 of their last 9 games, including a 72-62 road victory over NDSU on January 30th.

Tip-off from First Bank & Trust Arena is scheduled for 7:00 PM tonight.

South Dakota Coyotes Women’s Basketball returns to the hardwood tomorrow night, taking on the Omaha Mavericks in Omaha.

USD defeated the Mavericks when the two programs met in Vermillion on January 11th, 71-66. Grace Larkins posted 45 points for the Coyotes in that win.

Tip-off from Omaha is set for 7:00 PM tomorrow night.

South Dakota Coyotes have been named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference Anniversary team, the league announced yesterday.

Selected from USD are Tight End JJ Galbreath (2021-24), Defensive Back Myles Harden (2020-23), Punter Brady Schutt (2017-2021), and Punter Miles Bergner (2013-2016).

The Coyotes first joined the Valley in 2012, and earned a share of the MVFC championship this past season, their first in school history.

  • Bon Homme lost to Mount Vernon-Plankinton 60-51.
  • Scotland-Menno lost to Viborg-Hurley 69-21.

Girls Basketball:

  • Bon Homme lost to Mount Vernon-Plankinton
  • Scotland-Menno lost to Viborg-Hurley 51-43.
  • Cedar Catholic defeated Wausa 68-32.
  • Hartington-Newcastle lost to Bloomfield 44-38.
  • Wynot lost to Bancroft-Rosalie 58-31.

The Crofton Warriors look to punch their ticket to the Sub-District C2-4 Girls’ Basketball Tournament Finals tonight, as they host Norfolk Catholic.

Crofton is 20-3 on the year entering the Sub-District semifinals. The Warriors have won five straight and seven of their last eight games, including a 64-38 win over Norfolk Catholic last week.
