The Mount Marty Lancers were swept by Northwestern last night in their first GPAC baseball games of the year.
The Lancers fell 3-2 in game one. Will Gardner and Aidan Chang drove in the two runs for MMU.
Game two ended 5-3 in favor of the Red Raiders. Lucas Kampshoff went 3 for 3 with an RBI double in the loss.
The Lancers travel to Crete, Nebraska, for their next two games. They will take on Doane on Sunday in a doubleheader. The first pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM.
Mount Marty Softball is 0-2 to open GPAC play, as they were swept by Dakota Wesleyan last night in a doubleheader.
The Lancers fell 12-3 in game one with Kayleen Jacinto notching a two-run home run in the 3rd inning.
Game two ended 17-9. Jayden Simpkins led the Lancers with 4 RBI and 2 runs scored with a pair of home runs.
The Lancers return to the diamond on Sunday for a doubleheader against Morningside in Yankton. Game one is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks Hockey lost to Sioux Falls East last night 2-0 in the opening round of the South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association Varsity State Tournament.
The Bucks recorded 33 shots on goal in the loss. Tyler Webb and Vincent Thill scored the two goals for Sioux Falls East.
Yankton will play Watertown today in a consolation game. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
Cedar Catholic Trojans Boys’ Basketball had their season come to an end yesterday with a 41-38 loss to Cross County in the Class C2 State Quarterfinals.
Mason Baller (B-AL-er) led the Trojans with 8 points and 3 assists. Braeden Reifenrath (Ry-fen-rath) followed with 7 points.
The Trojans end the season with a 21-7 overall record.
The Wynot Blue Devils advanced to the Class D2 Boys Basketball State Semifinals last night with a 60-53 win over Elgin Public-Pope John.
Wynot never trailed in the contest. Kotner Koch led the Blue Devils with 15 points. Justin Heimes added a 13-point 10-rebound double-double.
Wynot will face area rival Wausa in the D2 Semifinals tonight. Tip-off from Lincoln is set for 7:45 PM.

Wagner, South Dakota Junior Ashlyn Koupal has been selected as the 2024-25 Gatorade South Dakota Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year.
Koupal averaged a double-double through 22 games this season, posting 22.2 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 5 assists.
Koupal is currently ranked as the #9 recruit in the country in the class of 2026 by 24/7 Sports. Koupal joins her aunt Mandy as Gatorade Player of the Year honorees. Mandy won the award twice, in the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons.
