Mount Marty Baseball’s Slayder Watterson has been named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Watterson pitched a 7-inning complete game in an 8-2 win over Doane for the Lancers on Sunday, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 10 batters.

Watterson also pitched 2 innings against Mayville State on March 10th, striking out 3 batters and allowing 0 runs.

The Lancers are back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader against Briar Cliff in Yankton.

Mount Marty Men’s Golf placed 5th in their first meet of 2025, shooting a school-record 295 in the final round of the Doane Invite.

Wout Kerkhofs tied for 7th in the event, shooting a 2-over par 145. Also for the Lancers, Ted Bengston tied for 18th with a 150, Jimmie Cunningham shot 154, Hunter Bailey shot 156, and Lane Tvedt shot 158.

The Lancers return to action on March 27th and 28th for the Briar Cliff Match Play Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

South Dakota Men’s Basketball standout Chase Forte has been named to the NABC All-District 2nd-team for the Mountain District.

Forte averaged 17.9 points per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 1.9 steals per game, as he was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year this past season.

Forte is the fourth Coyote to earn NABC All-District honors and the first since 2021. He joins Matt Mooney, 1st-team in 2016-17 and 2017-18, Tyler Hagedorn, 1st-team in 2019-20, and Stanley Umude, 2nd-team in 2020-21.

The South Dakota High School Boys’ Basketball State Championships begin tomorrow for Classes AA, A, and B,

This year’s Class AA tournament will be held at The Monument in Rapid City. The Class A tournament will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, and the Class B tournament will once again take place at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen.

All three tournaments will run from Thursday through Saturday. First-round matchups for each tournament are available below.
