The Yankton County Commission has added a justification clause to any step raises for county employees.
Commissioner Don Kettering initially recommended that the county’s financial planning task force create a program to determine how to handle the situation.
Kettering made a motion to only allow a one-step raise while the task force worked on a program, but before the motion was approved, the commission went into executive session for legal counsel from the county’s state’s attorney, Tyler Larson.
After the executive session, Kettering waived his motion, and the justification clause, which was proposed by Commissioner Ryan Heine, was approved.
