Mount Marty Baseball swept Briar Cliff on Saturday in their GPAC doubleheader at Riverside Field.
The Lancers shut out the Chargers in game one, 3-0. Ryan Bachman and Jalen Owens each scored a run for the Lancers. Slayder Watterson earned the win on the mound with Zach Hegge picking up the save.
MMU claimed the sweep with a 4-2 win in game two. Cooper Milnarik finished the game 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Palmer Jacobs struck out four batters over 7 innings for the win on the mound.
The Lancers improve to 15-9 on the year, 4-4 in conference play, with the wins. They’ll return to action on Friday, taking on Dordt in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Mount Marty Softball dropped a pair of games to #7 Northwestern over the weekend in Sioux Falls.
The Lancers fell 7-3 in game one. Janeah Castro went 2 for 2 with an RBI in game one, with Ella Ray adding 2 runs.
Game two ended 8-7. Janeah Castro went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, Lilinoe Nihi added 3 RBI, while Abby Johnson ended 3 for 4 at the plate.
The Lancers are in Sioux City, Iowa tomorrow to make up a doubleheader against Briar Cliff. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks Baseball opens their 2025 campaign tonight, hosting Irene-Wakonda at Riverside Field.
The Bucks are coming off a 13-14 season in 2024, that saw them qualify for the state tournament. Yankton was eliminated by eventual state runners-up Harrisburg in the quarterfinals.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:45. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton High School will host a Spring Sports Kickoff tomorrow night. Food and drinks will be served at 5:30 with spring athletics coaches scheduled to speak at 6:00. The event will be held in the YHS commons. The public is invited to attend.
The 2024-25 High School Boys’ Basketball season officially came to an end on Saturday, with three state champions being crowned across Class AA, A, and B.
Brandon Valley are the champions of Class AA following their 53-45 win over defending champions Mitchell. Sioux Falls Christian are the top team in Class A, defeating Hamlin in the championship 61-51, and Castlewood defeated Viborg-Hurley 52-31 to claim the Class B title.

South Dakota State Women’s Basketball advanced to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32 on Saturday with a 74-68 win over Oklahoma State.
Four different Jackrabbits scored in double figures, led by Brooklyn Meyer with 19 points and 8 rebounds.
SDSU faces UConn today in the round of 32. Tip-off from Gampel Pavillion in Storrs, Connecticut is scheduled for 8:00 Eastern/7:00 Central.
