Yankton Gazelles Softball picked up their first win of the season last night, defeating Aberdeen Central 17-2.
Madison Girard led the Gazelles with multiple hits at the plate while striking out nine batters for the win in the circle. Hailey Schulte posted a team-high three RBIs.
The Gazelles are now 1-1 on the season. They’ll travel to Pierre on Thursday for a matchup with the Governors. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks Baseball returns to the diamond this afternoon, hosting Sioux Falls Jefferson at Riverside Field.
The Bucks are 4-1 on the season following their doubleheader split with Brookings on Sunday.

Yankton Bucks Tennis swept their home triangular yesterday, defeating Mitchell 5-4 and Brandon Valley 8-1.
Zachary Briggs went 4-0 between singles and doubles play over the two duals. Yankton swept singles play against Brandon Valley as well.
The Bucks are now 8-1 on the year. They return to the courts today to take on Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley in Sioux Falls. Matches begin at 11:00 AM.
Mount Marty Men’s and Women’s Golf are both in the top 4 after the opening day of the Dakota Wesleyan Invite in Mitchell.
The Lancer women are 3rd with a 334, one stroke back of 2nd place and four strokes off the leaders. The Lancers have two golfers in the top 10 individually, Kelsey Heath in 6th and Trinity Palmquist in 8th.
The Lancer men are in 4th at 305 after round one. They are a single stroke behind 3rd place Mayville State. Ted Bengston leads the Lancers as he is tied for 3rd individually at an even par.
The two-day event concludes today in Mitchell.

Long-time South Dakota Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach and former USD athlete Casey Kasperbauer has been announced as the new head men’s basketball coach at Upper Iowa University.
Kasperbauer has spent seven seasons on staff at USD, two as a Director of Operations, one as the team’s Defensive Coordinator, and the last four as the Offensive Coordinator.
Kasperbauer is the 19th coach in the history of the Peacocks Program. Upper Iowa is based in Fayette, Iowa, and competes at the NCAA Division II level.
