A Community Match Challenge has been offered to help maintain the LSS New American Outreach position in Yankton.
Rita Nelson, Yankton Thrive’s Business Services Director, says the role has been critical with the closure of Cimpl Meats and the resulting displacement of over 270 employees and families.
Nelson says the outreach program helps people find employment, connect with immigration attorneys, enroll in English language classes, and complete community orientation programs that include information on schools, public safety, healthcare, housing, and financial services.
Due to recent federal funding cuts, the Yankton office was at risk of closing last month.
Nelson says the outreach program received $3,000 in emergency donations, as well as an anonymous donor who has agreed to offer $1,500 per month match for the next three months.
All donations received during the match period (May, June, July) will be doubled. The goal is $3,000 to keep the services going for three months.
Those interested in donating can do so by dropping it off at Yankton Thrive on East Highway 50, or by calling Connecting Cultures at (605)-660-6139.
