- The South Dakota and Nebraska High School football playoffs were in full swing this past Thursday and Friday.
- South Dakota
- The #4 Yankton Bucks held strong at home vs a visiting #5 Mitchell in the 11AA Quarterfinal round, downing the Kernels 42-21 to advance to the Semifinals this Friday. Hosting the Bucks will be #1 Tea Area, who defeated Sturgis in their quarterfinal matchup. Listen or watch the action live on KYNT & KYNTV with the voice of the Yankton Bucks, Bryce Ladwig. - On the other end of the 11AA Playoff Bracket Thursday night, #7 Aberdeen Central shocked the class by defeating #2 Brookings on the road 42-34. Now the Golden Eagles travel to #3, and 4x defending 11AA Champion Pierre this Friday.
- #1 Avon defeated #8 Alcester-Hudson 30-14 in the Class 9B Quarterfinal Round Thursday night, moving on to the semi-final round to host #5 Dell Rapids St. Mary, who defeated #4 Gayville-Volin 42-22 in their own quarterfinal matchup. Kickoff time 7pm this Friday.
- In Class 11A, #3 Vermillion defeated #6 Tri-Valley in the Quarterfinal Round 21-7, and now host #7 Milbank Friday. If the Tanagers advance to the State Championship Game, not only will they have home field advantage (DakotaDome), but it will be the first time Vermillion has made the Championship in over two decades.
- Nebraska
- The #9 Hartington Cedar Catholic Trojans traveled to #8 North-Platte St. Patricks and secured a 20-7 victory to move on in the Class C2 playoffs. The Trojans now face off against #1 Norfolk-Catholic on the road in the quarterfinal round this coming Friday. Norfolk-Catholic defeated #16 Crofton Friday night in their first round matchup by a 35-6 score.
- Yankton Gazelles Volleyball host their final home game of the season tomorrow night at the Summit Activities Center as Brookings comes to town for an ESD Conference matchup. The Gazelles are (12-13) on the season and have two total regular season games remaining before the SODAK 16 Playoff.
- 21 points were scored in the final four minutes of gametime as the Lancers football program battled with Hastings College. Torren Devericks threw 2 touchdown passes for Mount Marty in the final 4 minutes to make it a 7-point game in favor of Hastings. However, the Lancers were unable to get the ball back in the final minutes. Mount Marty ultimately fell to Hastings College 28-21 and are now 0-9 on the season. This week is the bye week for the Lancers, then they will travel to Midland University to finish off the season in two weeks.
- The Mount Marty Lancers men’s basketball team suffered their first loss of the season in a road game against Dakota State University last night. The Lancers had an early lead thanks to 12 three pointers made in the game, but Dakota State took the lead just before halftime and never gave it up. The final score was 98-86. The Lancers now hold a 2-1 record and will travel to New Ulm Minnesota tomorrow evening for a 7pm matchup with Martin Luther College. All coverage on KYNT, with the pregame starting at 6:30.
- The Lancer Volleyball team fell in three sets to Dakota Weslyan University on Friday. This brings the Lancers overall record to 8-19. They will finish off the season tomorrow evening against #9 College of Saint Mary at the Cimpl Arena. The first serve will be at 7:30pm.
- The Mount Marty Soccer programs finished up their regular seasons over the weekend against Midland University. The Lancer women fell 4-0 in the match and will finish the season with a 1-15 record. The Lancers will graduate two seniors, Isabella Diaz-Short, and Torrye Provencher.
- The Lancer men’s soccer program had already secured their spot in the GPAC tournament heading into their match with Midland, and even though they lost 2-1, they have secured the eighth seed in the conference tournament. Mount Marty will travel to Orange City, Iowa to play Northwestern College on Wednesday at 7pm.
