  • The SODAK 16 for South Dakota High School Volleyball kicked off last night for the B & A classes. The following teams qualified for their respective classes State Tournament at the new arena in Rapid City, “The Monument”.

Class B: Platte-Geddes, Colman-Egan, Warner, Faulkton Area, Arlington, Burke, Chester Area, and Aberdeen Christian

Class A: Sioux Falls Christian, Garretson, Dakota Valley, Wagner, Parkston, Hamlin, Elkton-Lake Benton, and Hill City.

The Double-A Class will play their Sodak 16 games tomorrow, and all three classes will play at the same site the 18th through the 20th.

  • The 12th seeded (14-13) Yankton Gazelles are heading to 5th seeded (15-5) Pierre Governors tomorrow for their Class AA Sodak16 playoff matchup. The winner of the contest earns a berth to the State Tournament held at “The Monument” in Rapid City the 18th through the 20th. You can catch the action live on KYNT and KYNTV with the voice of Yankton Athletics, Bryce Ladwig, pregame 530pm, first serve at 6pm.
  • Matthew Mors, the former Yankton Bucks basketball star, and current Wisconsin Badger, has announced his decision to redshirt his first year for the Wisconsin Badger Basketball Program. Per the Badgers website, Mors stated: “After talking with Coach Gard, the staff and my family, I thought it would be best for me in the long run to redshirt this season in order to get my body ready and get prepared for this level of play, both mentally and physically, I felt this was the best decision for me now.” A three-time South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year and four-star recruit, Mors set the all-time Class AA boys scoring record amassing over 2,000 points during his Yankton Bucks career.
  • South Dakota junior Elizabeth Juhnke has been named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week. Juhnke, honored for the second consecutive week and for the sixth time in her career, contributed 36 kills as the Coyotes posted a three-set win over Western Illinois and a four-set win over St. Thomas. South Dakota, 15-8 overall and winners of five straight, take a 12-2 Summit League record into Thursday’s match with Denver, also 12-2 in the Summit.
  • A high school basketball standout has officially committed to play at the next level. Ndjakalenga Mwenentanda, a 6-3 wing from Sioux Falls Washington, has committed to University of Texas to play basketball for the Longhorns. Ndjakalenga is a two-time all-state selection, and the only junior to be named a finalist for the 2021 USA Today South Dakota Female Basketball Player of the Year. In Ndjakalengas time at Sioux Falls Washington High School, she helped lead the team to a state tournament berth in 2020 a Class AA state championship in 2021.

The Mount Marty Lancers inaugural football season will come to a close this Saturday at Midland. The Lancers are still looking to secure the first win in their short history and will have one more chance this season. Midland is 5-5 on the season. You can catch all of the action of the last football game of the year this Saturday on KYNT with the pregame starting at noon, kickoff at 1pm.

The Lancer basketball teams will travel together down to Crete Nebraska on Saturday for a double header vs Doane University. The women are 0-3 on the season and look to pick up their first win, and the men are 3-3. The women will play first at 2pm with the mens game immediately following.
