- A big time ESD double-header will unfold inside the Mitchell Corn Palace tomorrow as the Gazelles and Bucks face off against the Kernels. The front end of the two-game tilt will showcase the Gazelles’ (1-3) first game since the winter break, pitting them against a 1-4 Kernels girls team that secured their first victory of the season during the recent Hoop City Classic. The Bucks will have arguably their toughest opponent to date, as the (4-2) Kernels, led by Augustana commit Kaden Hinker seek to get back in the win column after falling to Harrisburg Tuesday night. - It’s rivalry weekend for both South Dakota Coyote Women and Men’s basketball programs. The men (7-6, 0-2) travel to Frost Arena this Saturday to take on SDSU (12-4, 3-0) at 6pm. The women (11-4) host SDSU (8-7) Saturday inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 1pm.
- Trips to Texas, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee highlight South Dakota’s 2022 softball schedule which was released yesterday by head coach Robert Wagner. The schedule includes tournaments hosted by Sam Houston State, Furman, Florida International, Memphis and Kansas. The home opener is March 22 against Creighton. The Summit League welcomes St. Thomas this year, bringing the number of softball playing teams to eight. The Coyotes will meet the Tommies April 9-10 in St. Paul.
- The Mount Marty Men’s basketball team won in overtime over #23 Concordia last night in the Cimpl Arena 70-67. It was the first conference win for the Lancers. Postgame, head coach Collin Authier was reflective of his team’s resilience, and the emotion of what this win means for the program.
- This was the first top 25 win of coach Authier’s first season as the head coach of the Lancers, and the teams fifth victory overall. Tyrell Harper led the Lancers in points with 25 on the evening, also adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 7 blocks. The Lancers move to 5-14 on the season and will head into the back half of the schedule with new momentum. Next up is a matchup with Northwestern on January 12th.
- The Mount Marty Women’s basketball team also battled Concordia University in the Cimpl arena last night. The Lancers and Bulldogs kept it close early, with the score being within 1 point at the end of the first quarter. However, the Bulldogs put up 27 points in the second quarter to take a 27-14 halftime lead. The Lancers could not overcome the deficit in the second half and fell 83-58 and will fall to 2-15 overall.
