- The Yankton Gazelles and Bucks Basketball squads will have a busy weekend at the Summit Center as they host Rapid City Stevens tomorrow and Rapid City Central on Saturday for a pair of girls/boys double-headers. Tomorrow’s action begins with the (12-2) Rapid City Stevens Raiders taking on the (4-9) Yankton Gazelles, followed by the (8-6) Rapid City Stevens Boy’s taking on the (7-7) Yankton Bucks. Pregame can be caught on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 530pm with Bryce Ladwig.
- Northeast Nebraska High School Basketball is in full swing tonight as the Hartington-Cedar Catholic Girls (5-16) take on Battle Creek (11-11), and the Hartington Cedar Catholic Boys (18-4) clash with Battle Creek (8-13). - South Dakota’s Danica Badura earned her first career Summit League Female Golfer of the Week accolade. Badura tied for 11th to lead the Coyotes at the Texas State Invitational in what was the team’s spring-opening tournament. Badura finished with a 224 (+8) total in the 54-hole event with her best round coming in the middle when she fired a season-low 71 (-1) in an 18-hole loop around the Plum Creek Golf Course. The sophomore from Aurora, Nebraska recorded two birdies that round and was just one of five golfers to card an eagle during the tournament when she holed out on a par-five. This is the sixth top-15 finish in Badura’s career as a Coyote.
- South Dakota men’s basketball (13-10, 6-6 Summit) takes on Omaha (4-20, 3-10 Summit) at 7 pm tonight inside Baxter Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. South Dakota women’s basketball (18-5, 11-1) hosts Omaha tonight at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center in Vermillion, tipoff at 7pm as well.
- South Dakota State Men’s Basketball is off to its best start in Summit League history at 12-0. Only Cleveland State in 1992-93 (14-0) and Oral Roberts in 2007-08 (13-0) have had better starts in the conference. SDSU has won 14 straight at Frost Arena, the 7th longest active home court win streak in Division I. The Jacks have won 69 of the last 71 at home. The Jacks are one of 12 D1 teams with 20 wins. Auburn and Murray State have won 22, while SDSU and Purdue have collected 21 victories.
- The Mount Marty Lancers men’s and women’s basketball programs traveled to Sioux Center, Iowa last night for a matchup with Dordt University. The Lancer women played first but got off to a slow start. Dordt took a 27-9 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Defenders won 76-52. The Mount Marty women fall to 2-24 on the season.
- The Lancer men hit a few clutch shots down the stretch in the second half of their matchup with the Defenders and forced overtime on the road. However, Dordt controlled the overtime period outscoring the Lancers 14-5. Mount Marty fell 76-67 and are now 7-20 on the season.
- Next up for both Lancer teams is a Saturday road trip to Orange City, Iowa to face Northwestern College. All coverage on KYNT starting at 1:30 p.m. with the first tip at 2.
- Paul Paul of the men’s indoor track and field program at Mount Marty has been selected as the GPAC athlete of the week. Paul Paul, at the Concordia Classic last Friday won the 400m in 49.10 seconds. That is the third fastest time recorded in the GPAC this year. Paul also anchored a first place 4x400m relay team. In the national rankings announced Wednesday, the Lancers are currently ranked at 12. The Lancer indoor track and field programs will compete at home this weekend for the Mount Marty Last Chance meet on Saturday.
- Due to a schedule change, the Mount Marty Lancers baseball program will kick off the season with a home matchup vs Waldorf University this weekend. Originally, the Lancers were set to travel to Missouri to play Waldorf, but now will play at Bob Tereshinski Stadium at Riverside Field in Yankton on Sunday, starting at noon, and Monday, starting at noon as well. These games will be the earliest home games played in the history of Mount Marty baseball. Last season, the Lancers finished 3rd in the GPAC with a 29-19 record.
