Yankton Gazelle Ellie Karolevitz has wanted to play college basketball since a young age, and her production on the court over her high school career has turned that dream into a reality. Karolevitz recently announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic journey with Northwestern College out of the GPAC Conference. To her, it was an easy decision.
While impressive, Karolevitz isn’t the first Yankton Gazelle or Buck to continue competitive play at the next level, but what she had to overcome to accomplish her goal is what truly exemplifies her competitive drive and spirit. Karolevitz has torn both of her ACL’s as well the meniscus in each knee.
The journey back from each injury may take the headlines, but Karolevitz effort on the court left those who watched in awe at her focused and aggressive style of play, which resulted in an average of just under 15 points per game her senior year. While it wasn’t the final game of the season, Karolevitz was able to return to the Gazelles home floor at the Summit Activities Center for senior night, a moment that stands out to Karolevitz.
Karolevitz will enjoy the remainder of her high school senior season while continuing to train and condition herself for the next level.
