- South Dakota Women’s Basketball cinderella run came to an end in the Sweet 16 as the Coyotes fell 52-49 to Michigan in front of 8,540 fans inside INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
South Dakota (29-6) was just the second team in Summit League women’s basketball history to reach the Sweet 16 and one of only 27 double-digit seeds in NCAA Tournament history to reach this round. Saturday marked the final game in the storied careers of seniors Hannah Sjerven (Sherven), Chloe Lamb, Liv Korngable and Regan Sankey. The quartet qualified for four-straight NCAA Tournaments and led the Coyotes on this season’s historic run. Sjerven spoke about how pleasantly surprised she was by the sheer amount of red fanfare that was present in the arena.
Sjerven led the Coyotes with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting in 28 minutes of action. Freshman guard Grace Larkins, the Summit’s Sixth Woman of the Year, knocked down three triples for nine points. Lamb and Korngable both tallied six points, as did second-year freshman Kyah Watson. Second-year freshman guard Maddie Krull added five.
- Yankton Bucks Tennis opened their season on the road in Rapid City this past weekend for two days of varsity invitational competition. On Friday, the Bucks defeated Rapid City Christian 6-3, and Rapid City Central 9-0. On Saturday, the Bucks continued their winning ways, defeating Rapid City Stevens 7-2 and Spearfish 9-0. The Bucks are now 4-0 to start their season and will host Sioux City Bishop Heelan and Vermillion tomorrow at the Summit Activities Center Courts. First serve is scheduled for 11am.
- Yankton secured nine total victories between the boys and girl’s events at the Lancer High School Class A Open Friday at the First Dakota Fieldhouse in Yankton. The meet contained seven teams from three states. The Yankton girls swept both relays, starting the day with Shae Rumsey, Thea Chance, Claire Tereshinski and Sydnee Serck winning the 3200 relay in 10:00.44. The foursome of Rumsey, Madisyn Bietz, Cora Schurman and Serck won the 1600 relay in 4:13.89. Rumsey and Serck each had individual wins on the day, with Rumsey winning the 400 (1:00.71) and Serck winning the 800 (2:22.45). The Yankton boys also started the day with a victory in the 3200 relay (8:39.26), with Dylan Payer, Nate Schoenfelder, Carson Conway and Zach Fedde completing the foursome. Conway won the 800 in 2:07.24. Braylen Bietz won the 200 in 23.56 and placed sixth in the 60 (7.44). Austin Gobel won the 60 in 7.12 seconds. Cooper Grotenhuis won the triple jump with a mark of 40-11. Yankton has one more indoor meet on its schedule, the ESD Indoor Invite this Saturday in Brookings. Start time is set for 1 pm.

- South Dakota Softball freshman pitcher Clara Edwards twirled a gem during Sunday’s rubber match of a Summit League series against North Dakota State at Nygaard Field. Edwards limited the Bison (Bizon) to six hits, allowing no earned runs, while the Coyotes earned the series win with an 8-1 victory. The two wins were the first for South Dakota at home against North Dakota State in Summit League era and Sunday’s triumph was punctuated by a pair of four-run innings. South Dakota travels to Des Moines on Tuesday for a mid-week non-conference double header against Drake. First pitch of game one is set for 4 pm.
- The Mount Marty baseball team hosted Jamestown University over the weekend for a four-game series. The Lancers took the weekend 3 games to 1.

Now with a 20-7 overall and 6-2 GPAC record, Mount Marty is set for a trip to Mitchell, South Dakota for a single game non-conference matchup with Dakota Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. this Wednesday.
- Mount Marty softball traveled to Doane University on Saturday for two games. The Lancers swept the Tigers on the road with a 4-3 score in the first game, 3-2 score in the second. Mount Marty is now 14-8 overall and 4-2 in the GPAC. Next, Mount Marty will host Dakota State University for a doubleheader tomorrow at riverside field starting at 4.
- Mount Marty men’s and women’s tennis competed against Hastings College on Saturday. Both teams lost to Hastings 6-1. The Mount Marty women are now 0-3-2 on the season and the men hold a 0-5-2 overall record. Both teams are set to host Concordia University at the National Field Archery Association Headquarters in Yankton on Thursday with the action beginning at 1 p.m.
- Mount Marty men’s golf is set to begin their spring golf season today at Ames Golf & Country Club over in Ames, Iowa. The Lancers are competing in the Jimmie Spring Swing over the next two days. In the fall season, the Lancers finished 11th in the GPAC.
