- Very few teams have the opportunity to end its season with a championship game victory on home court in April. The South Dakota State Women Jackrabbits are one of them. Behind five players in double figures, including double-double performances from Kallie Theisen and WNIT MVP Myah Selland, the Jackrabbits came out on top of a lopsided 82-50 WNIT championship game Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena. This is the first WNIT championship in program history. The Jackrabbits end the year 29-9, an incredible turnaround from the 4-7 record SDSU held following the nonconference season.
- Yankton Bucks Baseball held its double-header season opener vs Brookings Saturday afternoon at Riverside Field in Yankton, splitting the games. In the first matchup, Yankton fell short 8-5, losing the lead late, surrendering five runs in the last two innings. The Bucks were led offensively by Lucas Kampshoff who knocked in two of the Bucks five runs on a line drive double in the 3rd inning. Garrett Nelson was saddled with the loss for Yankton, surrendering 3 earned runs in the sixth inning.
In the second game, Yankton rode an 8 run sixth inning to a 11-9 win. Offensively, Yankton was led by Samuel Kampshoff and Lucas Kampshoff who each knocked in two runs. On the mound, Drew Ryken took the victory after pitching 6.1 innings, striking out two, and surrendering six earned runs.

- Yankton Track and Field competed in the ESD Indoor Meet Saturday afternoon in Brookings, the boys finished second (830.5), the girls finished sixth (585.5). Brandon Valley swept both boys (949) and girls (976) titles as well as the combined team title (1925). The Bucks secured one first place victory in the meet, as Cody Oswald ran a (8.65) in the 60-meter hurdles. The Bucks 4×300 meter relay finished second in a highly anticipated matchup, falling short to Brandon Valley by just a fraction under 5 seconds (2:24.49-2:29.45). The Gazelles had a duo of victories on the day. Sydnee Serck took first in the 600 (1:38.69) and Shae Rumsey took first in the 800 (2:23.42). Yankton begins the outdoor portion of its season tomorrow, hosting a quadrangular. Start time is 4 pm at Williams Field.
- After defeating Brandon Valley and Mitchell in the Lynx Triangular this past Friday, the Bucks improve to 8-0 on the season, and travel to Sioux Falls tomorrow for a triangular at Kuehn Park vs both Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley. First serve is set for 11am.
- South Dakota’s team of 14-and-under hockey players will play for the 2022 USA Hockey Tier II 14U National Championship late this morning at 9am in Kalamazoo, MI. Yankton’s own Luke Moeller and Team South Dakota will face the Alaska Oilers, a rematch of the tournament’s first round game. Team South Dakota won their quarterfinal and semifinal games on Sunday to qualify for the championship game. All games are available for viewing online at www.hockeytv.com.
- South Dakota captured eight events Saturday at the USD Early Bird, with the day at the Lillibridge Track Complex capped off by a top-10 nationally ranked mark in the women’s pole vault. Freshman Marleen Mülla rolled to a victory in the women’s pole vault at the end of the night by clearing a personal best of (4.41m). Mülla’s height ranks sixth in the NCAA this season and fourth all-time in USD history. The Coyotes clocked the three-fastest times in the women’s 400-meter hurdles this afternoon with a podium sweep in the race. Freshman Moe Bridgen crossed the finish line in 1:00.48 for a new league-leading time. Sophomore Jacy Pulse took second in 1:00.56 and fifth-year senior Holly Gerberding was third in 1:00.87. Bridgen and Pulse moved to fifth and sixth, respectively, on USD’s career charts. Third-year sophomore Lydia Knapp launched a personal best of (60.63m) on her second throw of the hammer competition. The mark topped the field Saturday and ranks second in USD program history. South Dakota travels to Wichita, Kansas, for the K.T. Woodman Classic next week. Multi-event action kicks off at 1230 pm Wednesday.
- After splitting with the Mustangs on Saturday, the Lancer baseball team hit two walk-off victories over Morningside University on Sunday. Both hit by Senior lead-off hitter, Jet Weber.

Mount Marty took the series against Morningside 3-1 and are now 23-8 on the season. Next, the Lancers will travel to Madison, South Dakota for a Tuesday evening matchup with Dakota State starting at 4. This is a non-conference single game matchup.
On Saturday, the Lancer softball team split with Hastings College in two matchups. In game one, the Lancers won 12-1 in five innings. Hastings then took game two 5-3. The Lancers are now 17-9 on the season and will travel to #24 Morningside University on Friday for two matchups beginning at 3 p.m.
- Mount Marty outdoor track and field began their season on Satuday with the USD Early Bird. The Lancers had a good showing at a meet full of NCAA Division 1 programs. Mount Marty won two events and had several other top-10 finishes. Results:
Paul Paul won the 400m, with Nathan Simons placing sixth.
Jessie Van Hemert won the 400m hurdles, Zander Widener placed 10th.
Marcus Jnofinn placed fifth in the 100m.
Elianna Clark placed 7th in the 100m.
Next up for Mount Marty is the Sioux City Relays on April 8th and 9th.
