- South Dakota women’s basketball player Hannah Sjerven (Sherven) has been named the Summit League March Athlete of the Month. Sjerven, a sixth-year senior from Rogers, Minnesota, garners the league’s monthly accolade for the second-straight month. She’s the 25th athlete in Summit history to garner two of this award in the same year. Sjerven averaged 17.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game during the postseason in March. She shot at a 58.7 percent clip from the field and 57.1 percent from 3-point range. She led South Dakota first to a Summit League Tournament crown, then on to the Sweet 16 with the first NCAA Tournament wins in program history. She faced three projected first-round WNBA draft picks in three-straight NCAA Tournament games, outscoring two of the three in the head-to-head matchups.
- Yankton Bucks Tennis (10-0) has a schedule change to today’s originally scheduled triangular with Milbank at Sioux Falls Jefferson. Due to weather, the triangular will now be a dual with Milbank only, beginning at 11am AT HOME at the NFAA Indoor Courts.
- Yankton Track and Field is preparing to travel to Brandon Valley tomorrow morning for a varsity invitational. Field events begin at 10am, running events begin at 1030am.
- South Dakota junior Liberty Justus and sophomore Wyatt Lubarski finished runner-up in the women’s heptathlon and men’s decathlon on Thursday at the K.T. Woodman Classic held at Cessna Stadium. Justus tallied a personal best score of 4,433 points in spite of the windy conditions the past two days. She added a pair of second-place finishes in the long jump 5.41m and 800 meters on Thursday, improving her overall standing from third place at the end of day one to second place. Lubarski posted a score of 5,857 points to take second place and lead a trio of Coyotes in the decathlon. South Dakota returns to action at the K.T. Woodman Classic Friday with open events beginning at 6 pm.
- Emma Burns of Mount Marty softball has not only been named the GPAC player of the week, but the National NAIA player of the week. This is the first time in program history a Lancer has been named the national player of the week. Burns hit .727 on the week (8-for-11) and hit four home runs. Burns also put up 11 RBI and scored 6 times. The Lancers are back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader at The College of Saint Marty at 1. Then again on Sunday when they travel to #24 Morningside University for two matchups beginning at 1.
- Mount Marty baseball will begin a two-week road stretch tomorrow as they begin a four-game series with Dordt University over in Sioux Center, Iowa. There will be two games on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. Then on Monday, MMU will have the final two games with Dordt beginning at 4 p.m. The Lancers enter this road stretch with a 24-8 overall record and a 9-3 conference record.
- Mount Marty men’s and women’s outdoor track and field are set to compete in the Sioux City Relays today and tomorrow. This two-day event is the second meet of the season for both teams. The Mount Marty tennis teams hosted Morningside University yesterday for two matchups. The women lost 6-1 and fall to 0-5-2 on the season. The men lost 0-7 and fall to 0-7-2 on the season. Next, both teams will travel to face Northwestern College on Tuesday, April 12th at 4 for the women, and 7 for the men.
