- Yankton’s originally scheduled track and field competition in Mitchell today has been cancelled due to inclement weather. A rescheduled date has not been made public at this time. There are no Yankton athletic competitions on the schedule until early next week, when the 7-1 Yankton Bucks host Sioux Falls Lincoln for a varsity baseball double-header beginning at noon. And Tuesday, when Bucks tennis host a triangular (Sioux Falls Washington and Vermillion) at the SAC Tennis Courts at 11am, Yankton Gazelles golf host both Brookings and Brandon Valley at Fox Run Golf Course beginning at 1pm, and the Track and Field squads head to Brandon Valley for a four team meet (Sioux City Bishop Heelan, O’Gorman, Brandon Valley) beginning at 4pm.
- Yankton Gazelle senior and volleyball standout Chloe McDermott has committed to Grand View University as her next stop in furthering her academic and athletic career. McDermott led the Gazelles in kills (284). She tied for the team lead in ace serves with (32) and near the top of the team in digs (286), blocks (23) and assists (26).
- South Dakota head men’s basketball coach Eric Peterson announced the second addition to his coaching staff in Patrick Eberhart. Eberhart heads to South Dakota with nearly 30 years of coaching experience under his belt including the past 11 seasons at Omaha. Prior to his stint at Omaha, Eberhart was the head men’s basketball coach for Colorado State University-Pueblo from 2005-2011.
- South Dakota women’s basketball head coach Kayla Karius has announced the singing of Walker Demers to a National Letter of Intent. A 6-foot-3 center out of Grafton, North Dakota, Demers will graduate high school after only three years to enroll early at South Dakota. She’s played four seasons with the Spoilers, tallying more than 1,000 points, 750 rebounds and 200 blocks in her prep career. She led Grafton High School to a record of 110-18 in that span. Demers averaged a double-double of 16 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this past season en route to garnering all-state honors. She’s made the all-region team for three-straight years, the all-state tournament team for three years and was the 2021 North Dakota State Tournament MVP. Demers swatted a state-leading 98 blocks during the 2020 season and owns Grafton’s school record for rebounds in a single game (22) from this past season. Demers joins Joy Bergstrom in the Coyotes’ incoming freshman class.
