- It was a late-night last night for Yankton Baseball, as the Bucks returned home with a 13-2, 19-10 road sweep over Sioux Falls Washington. Lucas Kampshoff led the Bucks offensively in game one, driving in four runs, while his brother Samuel Kampshoff, earned the victory on the mound, tossing five and 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run, three hits, and tallying nine strikeouts. In game two, the Bucks racked up seventeen hits, and capitalized on Washington’s four errors en route to the victory. The Bucks offensive surge was led by Connor Teichroew (Tike-Row) who tallied four RBI. Lucas Kampshoff pitched three innings in relief and was credited with the win after allowing six earned runs, issuing three walks, but allowing just three hits and punching out six hitters. The Bucks, now 9-3, travel to Sioux Falls this Saturday and participate in a triangular, facing off against SF Jefferson and SF O’Gorman. First pitch is scheduled for 11am.
- Yankton Gazelles Golf fell short to O’Gorman by seven strokes (+62 / +69) in a varsity duel at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls yesterday afternoon. O’Gorman’s Lauren Sutcliffe led all competition, shooting a 73. Tatum Hohenthaner led Yankton, carding an 87. Jillian Eidsness finished right behind with an 88, Ellia Homstad with a 90, Gracie Brockberg with a 92, Sabrina Krajewski (Kraskie) ended the duel with a 96. Gazelles Golf now turns its attention to a home duel tomorrow morning against Harrisburg at Fox Run Golf Course, tee off scheduled for 10am.
- Yankton Bucks Tennis completed a sweep over Lennox (8-1) and Vermillion (9-0) yesterday afternoon at the Coyote Tennis Courts at the University of South Dakota. Bucks Tennis takes the court again Saturday in a triangular vs Madison and Watertown at Madison High School. First serve scheduled for 11am.
- Thirteen schools arrive at Williams Field at Yankton High School tomorrow afternoon for the First Dakota Relays. Field events begin at 2pm, running events begin at 3pm.
- The Mount Marty Lancer baseball team swept Briar Cliff University in a GPAC doubleheader yesterday evening at Riverside Field. These were the final two games of the four-game series meant to finish on Sunday but were rescheduled due the weather. The Lancers won the day with a 4-0 game one score, and a 7-3 win in game two. After the 3-1 series with Briar Cliff, Mount Marty holds a 32-13 overall, and 16-8 conference record. Next, the Lancers will travel to conference leader Doane for two games on Friday, and then finish the regular season with two games at Midland on Saturday. The action both days begins at 1 p.m.
- After a 3-1 weekend, and in good position to take a top-two seed in the GPAC tournament, the Lancer softball team is set for a Thursday doubleheader with Jamestown University beginning at 11. Junior Elliot Burns, after batting .500 and hitting three home runs, has also been named the GPAC player of the week for the second time this season. The Lancers will return home on Saturday to finish the regular season with a doubleheader against Briar Cliff University. All coverage of this Saturday’s softball games will be on KYNT and KYNTV beginning at 1.
- The Mount Marty women’s golf team finished their spring season with a fourth-place finish at the GPAC Championship played over Monday and Tuesday in Norfolk Nebraska. The Lancers were led by Kelsey Heath, who earned GPAC All Conference after finishing 9th in the GPAC with a +50 score.
- The Mount Marty women’s tennis team finished their season Monday with a 6-1 loss to the College of Saint Mary. MMU ends the season with an 0-8 record.
