- ESD Champs! The Yankton Bucks Tennis team secured the Eastern South Dakota Conference Championship yesterday at the Huron High School Tennis Courts. Yankton ended the competition with a 335.5 team score, over sixteen points above runner-up Mitchell (319). Individually, Gage Becker won 10-4 over Mitchell’s Macon Larson to take the Flight 1 Championship. Zach Briggs defeated Mitchell’s Aidan Patrick 10-2 to capture the Flight 3 Championship. Harrison Krajewski (Kraskie) upset Pierre’s Luke Leingang 10-8 to take the Flight 4 Championship. Keaton List defeated Watertown’s Jadon Lindner 10-6 to secure the Flight 5 Championship. Finishing 2nd and 5th in their flights were Ryan Schulte and Miles Krajewski (Kraskie). In doubles play, the team of Gage Becker and Zac Briggs took the flight one title, defeating the Aberdeen Central’s duo of Gabe Goetz and Ian Ahlberg 10-4. The Bucks now turn their attention toward the Class A State Tournament at Rapid City’s Sioux Park on Monday. First serve is set for 9am, and KYNT will provide updates on all of our social media platforms. The Bucks finished runner-up in the state tournament last season.
- The Yankton Bucks traveled to Sioux Falls last night to take on the #1 team in Class A South Dakota High School Baseball, Sioux Falls Roosevelt. The Bucks fell short in both contests of the double-header by 2-0 and 4-1 scores. Yankton’s Connor Teichroew (Tyke-Row) and Drew Ryken took the losses in their starts, both having tossed complete games. The duo surrendered just five combined earned runs against the best offensive team in the state. The Bucks, now 11-7, have another tough opponent this Friday with a double-header in Mitchell, as the 13-5 Kernels look to lock down their #4 position in the standings. First pitch is set for 6pm.
- Yankton Gazelles Golf competed in the Rob Marchand (Marsh-and) Memorial Golf Cup yesterday, an annual, three category duel versus Mitchell at Fox Run Golf Course. The Gazelles took the 13-7 victory. Yankton won the FOUR BALL competition which took place in the first six holes by a 4-1 score. The teams tied the SCRAMBLE competition which took place from the middle six holes, each with 2.5 scores. Yankton also won the SINGLES competition which rounded out the remaining six holes by a 6.5-3.5 score. Mitchell won’t have to wait long for their chance at retribution, as the Kernels host the Gazelles in an invitational this Friday at Lake View Golf Course beginning at 1030am.
