- Yankton Track & Field hosted the ESD Conference Championships at Williams Field Saturday afternoon, and the Bucks finished 2nd, tallying a 135.5 score, behind first place finisher Brandon Valley with a 157.5 score. The Gazelles finished fourth with 93 points, while Brandon Valley took the girls title with a 191.3 score. Yankton combined tallied five first place finishes in the meet:
- Junior Sydnee Serck finished first in the Girls 800-Meter Run (2:20.72)
- Sophomore Austin Gobel took the top spot in the Boys 200-Meter Dash (22.21) and first in the Boys Long Jump (21-00.00).
- Junior Cody Oswald hurdled his way to a first-place finish in the Boys 110-Meter Hurdles (14.98)
- The Boys 4×800 Meter Relay team consisting of Sophomore Carson Conway, Junior Nate Schoenfelder, Junior Zach Fedde, and Sophomore Dylan Payer took first with a 8:14.87 time, under four seconds ahead of 2nd place finishing Harrisburg (8:18.23).
Yankton now prepares for the “Last Chance Meet” tomorrow at Brandon Valley, where the athletes will have their last chance to place a top 24 score or time in the state in order to qualify for the state meet in Rapid City May 26th through the 28th. Tomorrows meet begins at 2pm.
- The Yankton Bucks Tennis team just secured its first ever ESD Conference Championship this past Tuesday, but now look to add a state title to their season accolades today and tomorrow in Rapid City at the Class A State Championship Meet. A state title would be the first since 1993 and second ever for the Bucks Tennis program. The Bucks finished runner-up a season ago, and will take their first swings at the title beginning at 8am this morning.
- The 11-9 Yankton Bucks baseball squad seeks to finish their regular season above .500 tomorrow when they travel to Sioux Falls to face off against both Sioux Falls Jefferson and Sioux Falls Washington in a varsity double-header beginning at 5pm. This double-header wraps up the regular season, then the Bucks await their fate as they find out where they will be playing their regional playoff on Saturday.
- The Lancers, after winning their first GPAC Championship, prepare to take the field in Chickasha, Oklahoma today as the four seed in their bracket of the NAIA National Tournament. They will face 1 seeded University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma for their first game on tonight at 6 p.m. We will have coverage of the MMU softball team as they compete in the NAIA National Tournament, and a special in studio pregame show begins at 530pm with KYNT Sports Director, Bryce Ladwig, then the play-by-play will be brought to you by the SAC Sports Network from Oklahoma at 6pm.
- For the first time since 2008, South Dakota women’s track and field has swept the indoor and outdoor team conference titles. The Coyote women captured the trophy at the conclusion of the three-day Summit League Championships held at ONEOK Sports Complex. South Dakota totaled 243 points in the women’s team race to runner-up North Dakota State’s 225. The Coyote men tallied 163 points for third place. North Dakota State won the men’s title with 241.5 points and runner-up South Dakota State tallied 205.
- South Dakota softball saw its season conclude following a pair of losses at the Summit League Tournament Saturday at Nygaard Field. The Coyotes dropped a 5-3 decision to top-seeded South Dakota State and lost 3-1 to second-seeded Omaha. South Dakota finishes with a 28-25 record, a plus-28 turnaround from last season which ranks as one of the best in the nation.
