- A packed house gathered at the Summit Center Friday night as Yankton Gazelles and Bucks Basketball action returned after a three week hiatus due to weather and the holiday break, they hosted ESD foe, Brookings. The Gazelles fell 63-40 in their contest and are now 0-4 on the season. Claire Tereshinski led the Gazelles offensively with 18 points.
The Bucks started strong in their contest, and lead the final three quarters of the game en route to a 76-39 victory. Leading Yankton offensively was Rugby Ryken with 18 points. Rugby also broke the YHS Boy’s Basketball Single-Game Assists Record, posting 12 in the game. He broke the previous record of 11 assists held by his father, Mark Ryken.
Weather permitting, the (2-0) Bucks travel to Huron tomorrow for another ESD Conference matchup, while both the Gazelles and Bucks host Mitchell at the Summit Center Friday evening. - The USD Coyote Women’s Team suffered a 76-67 conference loss at Western Illinois Saturday, while the Coyote Men hosted and defeated Western Illinois Saturday 80-63 at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The next opponent for the (7-8) Coyote Women and the (7-8) Coyote Men is North Dakota on Thursday, with the Coyote Women hosting and men traveling to Grand Forks, ND. Both games are scheduled to tipoff at 7pm.
- Yankton Wrestling returns to action Thursday, as the Bucks and Gazelles travel to Harrisburg for a varsity triangular with the Tigers and Mitchell Kernels beginning at 5pm.
- Yankton Gymnastics resumes competition on Saturday, traveling to Brookings for a Varsity Invitational beginning at 11am.
