The Mount Marty Lancers men and women are back in action tonight for a GPAC double header as they host Northwestern College inside Cimpl Arena.
The (5-12) Mount Marty Women will take on a (12-3) Northwestern women’s squad, while the (7-12) Lancer Men will battle the (12-4) Red Raiders men’s team.
Coverage for tonight’s action will begin at 5:30 PM on KYNT and KYNTV as the women are set to tip off at 6:00 with the men to follow. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.
The Mount Marty Lancers first track and field action of 2023 will take place this weekend. The Lancers will host the Mount Marty Opener on Saturday January, 14th inside the Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse. Events are scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM noon.
The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles basketball teams are both coming off of a loss to Mitchell last week as the two squads now set their sights on the Watertown Arrows.
The Gazelles will host the Arrows girls tomorrow night inside the Summit Activities Center, while the Bucks will travel to Watertown on Friday night to take on the Arrows boys.
Both games will be broadcast on KYNT and KYNTV on their respective nights. Pregame coverage for each will begin at 6:30 PM with tipoff set for 7:00. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call for both matchups.
The Yankton Gazelles gymnastics squad took part in a triangular last night in Sioux Falls at the Wings Gymnastics Academy.
Yankton obtained an overall score of 128.45, finishing 3rd in the event, while Harrisburg took the top spot with a score of 144.65. Mackenzie Steinbrecher led the overall scoring for the Gazelles with a 32.1, while Ava Koller achieved the highest single event score for Yankton with a 9.35 on her floor routine.
Next up for Gazelles gymnastics is an invitational on Friday in Huron at 5:30 PM.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles wrestling will return to the mat tomorrow night as both teams make the trip to Brandon Valley to compete in a triangular against Brandon Valley and Aberdeen Central. Matches are scheduled to begin at 5:00 PM Thursday night.
Multiple area high schools took to the basketball courts last night across South Dakota and Nebraska.
In South Dakota, The Vermillion Tanagers boys and girls traveled to Madison to take on the Bulldogs in a double header. The Tanager girls remain undefeated on the year following their 54 to 26 victory, while the Vermillion boys would fall to Madison 52 to 44.
In Nebraska, The Hartington-Newcastle girls were in action as they took a 50 to 40 home victory over Osmond-Randolph.
Also in action last night, the Crofton Warriors boys and girls took on Niobrara/Verdigre as the Warriors would sweep the two games with the girls winning 63 to 43, and the boys taking a 56 to 32 victory.
Finally, The Cedar Catholic Trojans and the Wynot Blue Devils took the floor last night for a boys and girls double header. The Trojans would win both matchups against the Blue Devils as the girls game ended 44 to 35, while the boys game concluded 71 to 60.
The South Dakota Coyotes and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits are set to renew their rivalry this week, as their men’s and women’s basketball squads are set to do battle on the hardwood on Saturday. The (13-5) Jackrabbit women will look to remain atop the Summit League standings as they host the (8-9) Coyotes in Frost arena at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon. The (8-9) USD men will welcome an (8-9) SDSU squad to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for a 6:00 PM tip Saturday evening in a battle between two teams currently tied for 3rd in the conference.
