Avera Sacred Heart has been named to the National Rural Health Association’s Top 100 Rural & Community Hospitals list for 2023.
Sacred Heart is one of 17 hospitals in the nation that have been on the list every year since it was started in 2016.
Sacred Heart President and CEO Doug Ekeren says that the staff at Sacred Heart deserves credit for the honor.
Ekeren says that the National Rural Health Association uses a hospital performance index to determine which hospitals make the list.
Sacred Heart is one of four Avera hospitals in South Dakota that were named to the list, including Queen of Peace in Mitchell, St. Luke’s in Aberdeen, and St Mary’s in Pierre.
