The South Dakota high school wrestling state championships began yesterday, and six Yankton wrestlers competed in the event. Five of those involved have been eliminated from the tournament after day one, with Naveah Leonard still in competition for the state title. Today’s slate of matches are set to begin at 10:00 AM in Rapid City.

Damian Janish (Boys 106) – Fell by tech fall in match 1 and decision in match 2
Dylan Sloan (Boys 128) – Lost match 1 by decision, won match 2 by decision (6-2), and lost match 3 by fall
Peyton Eustace (Boys 195) – Lost match 1 and match 2 by pinfall
Edly Amaro (Boys 220) – Lost match 1 by pinfall and match 2 by decision
Jaclyn Kyte (Girls 126) – Lost by pinfall in match 1 and match 2
Naveah Leonard (Girls 142) – Won match 1 by pinfall and won match 2 by majority decision. Next up for Leonard is a semifinal matchup with Jayden Lange of Flandreau later today.
The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles basketball teams return home tonight for a doubleheader against the Spearfish Spartans inside the Summit Activities Center.
The Gazelles will play first at 6:00 PM with the Bucks to follow, coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.
The (6-2) Mount Marty Lancers baseball team has their home opener tomorrow as they host a double header against Valley City State University. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 PM tomorrow afternoon with game two to follow.
The (4-0) Mount Marty Lancers softball team will be in Davenport, Iowa tomorrow afternoon for a pair of games against Saint Ambrose University and Mount Mercy. The Lancers are set to meet Saint Ambrose at 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, with their game against Mount Mercy scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
The South Dakota Coyotes men’s and women’s basketball teams split their two meetings with Oral Roberts last night. The Coyote women won their game 77-63 as Grace Larkins posted a 22-point, 12-rebound double double to lead the way. The USD men fell at home to Oral Roberts 82-70, Tasos Kamateros had 20-points and 9-rebounds in the loss.
Next up for both squads are the Kansas City Roos tomorrow afternoon. The women will play in Kansas City at 2:00 PM while the men meet inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center at 7:00. Tomorrow’s games are the regular season finales for both Coyote squads.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits men’s and women’s basketball teams both earned a season sweep over the Kansas City Roos with their victories last night. The SDSU women won 86-52 as four different players had double digit points. The Jackrabbit men defeated the Roos 73-50 in their game, as they also had four players in double figures for points.
Up next for the Jacks are the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles tomorrow afternoon. The women will play in Tulsa, while the men will battle inside Frost Arena. Both regular season finales for SDSU will begin at 2:00 PM.
A majority of the sub district finals for Nebraska high school boys basketball took place last night, as one area team punched their ticket to the district finals next week, while the other had their game delayed to this evening.
In Class D2-4, Wynot and Wausa will make up their game this evening after inclement weather caused yesterday’s meeting to be postponed. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM tonight in Wynot
In Class C2-6, the Cedar Catholic Trojans secured a spot in next week’s district finals with a 57-40 victory over Ponca. The district final opponent and location for the Trojans has yet to be set.
The District Finals for Nebraska high school girls basketball are set to take place this evening, as three area teams look to advance to the state tournament.
In Class C2, Crofton will meet Freeman at Columbus Lakeview High School at 7:00 PM this evening.
In Class D1, #4 Hartington-Cedar Catholic will host #13 Niobrara-Verdigre at 7:00 PM tonight.
In Class D2, #9 Wynot will face Overton at Seward High School this evening, tip off is set for 6:00 PM.
