The Class AA boys state basketball tournament begins next Thursday, and the Yankton Bucks will meet the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors for the 2nd time this season in the first round.
The Warriors defeated the Bucks in their first game 46-41 just a few weeks ago, and this game has even higher stakes than the previous matchup. The winner of this game will face either #1 Sioux Falls Jefferson or #8 Harrisburg in the semifinals, while the loser will move into the consolation bracket.
Tip off for the Bucks opening round matchup from Rapid City is set for 2:45 PM next Thursday. Coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 2:15, Bryce Ladwig will be on the call.
The (5-7) Mount Marty Lancers softball team has two games in McPherson, Kansas today against Mayville State University and Evangel. Game one against Mayville State will begin at 11:15 AM, with game two against Evangel set for 3:45 PM.
The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team are (14-3) on the year, as they gear up for a four game weekend series against Mayville State University beginning tomorrow morning.
Game one is set for 1:00 PM with first pitch of game two scheduled for 4:00. All games will be played in Concordia, Kansas.
Three area high schools had their first round games of the Nebraska high school boys basketball tournament take place yesterday, with two of them advancing to the semi finals.
In Class C2, #4 Cedar Catholic defeated #5 Elkhorn Valley 59-50. The Trojans will now meet #1 Freeman today at 1:30 PM inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Pregame coverage on Riverfront Sports 94.3 will begin at 1:00 with Scott Ulrich on the call.
In Class D2. top seeded Wynot beat #8 Paxton 57-47. The Blue Devils will face #5 Sumner-Eddyville-Miller at 6:00 PM tonight inside the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
Also in Class D2, the #7 seeded Santee Warriors fell to the #2 Shelton Bulldogs 72-68. With the loss, the Warriors have been eliminated from the tournament, which was the first appearance for the team in school history. Santee ends their year with a (15-6) record.
