LOCAL SPORTS 4-5-23

The Mount Marty Lancers softball team fell to 8 and 13 on the season yesterday afternoon as they were swept by the Dordt Defenders in a double header.

            Dordt held MMU to one run in each game, as the Lancers lost game one 5-1 and game two 2-1. Next up for the Lancers is a road double header with Hastings College on Saturday.

            Mount Marty Lancers men’s and women’s tennis hosted Northwestern College for a duel on Monday, as both Lancers squads would fall to the Red Raiders.

            The Lancer women fell 6-1 to Northwestern, as junior Tashlynne Badger secured the only match victory of the day for MMU. On the men’s side MMU fell 4-3 to Northwestern, Heinrich Lindeque, Jeronimo Wagner, and Ignacio Gomez all earned singles wins for the Lancers, while the Raiders swept the doubles portion of the meet.

            Next up for Lancer tennis is a trip to Seward, Nebraska on April 13th as MMU squares off with Concordia.

            Mount Marty women’s golf wrapped up the Concordia Invite yesterday as the Lancers finished the tournament 9th in the 11 team field.

            Lancer sophomore Kelsey Heath was the highest finisher on the team as she finished 10th after shooting 240 over three rounds. Courtney Heath (32nd) also finished in the top half of the field for MMU.

            Next up for Lancer women’s golf is next week’s Jamestown invitational on April 14th and 15th, taking place in Jamestown, ND.

            The Yankton Bucks Tennis team earned another pair of victories as they defeated Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Brandon Valley in a triangular yesterday.

            Yankton defeated Brandon Valley 7-2 and swept Roosevelt 9-0. Zachary Briggs, Harrison Krajewski, Miles Kajewski, and Jack Pederson all went 2 and 0 in singles matches on the day, while the Bucks were undefeated in duos play over the course of the event.

            Next up for Bucks tennis is a home triangular with Millbank and Vermillion on Thursday, first serve is scheduled for 11:00 AM.

            The Yankton Gazelles softball team has their second game of the season scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. The Gazelles will host Brandon Valley at Sertoma Park in Yankton. First pitch for varsity is set for 2:00 PM, JV will play at noon.

            Yankton track and field had their meet that was scheduled for yesterday scrapped due to forecasted weather. Yankton’s next track and field event is now scheduled for next Tuesday, April 11th, as they’ll host a triangular against Brandon Valley and Mitchell at 4:00 PM.
