Yankton senior Rugby Ryken added another feather to his cap earlier this week, as he was named a finalist for Mr. Basketball in the state of South Dakota.
Ryken averaged 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in the regular season for the Bucks, improving those numbers during the state tournament as he averaged 15.3 points per game and 6 assists per game, helping lead the Bucks to a state title.
South Dakota’s Mr. Basketball award will be officially presented to the winner on May 7th in Sioux Falls.
Rain and cold temperatures in the forecast have caused several postponements, cancellations, and changes to Yankton athletic schedules over the next couple days. Changes include:
- Yankton Gazelles softball had both their games against Sturgis on Thursday and Rapid City Stevens on Friday postponed. Games will now take place in Sioux Falls on May 5th and 6th.
- Yankton Gazelles golf had their quadrangular that was set for today at Spring Creek Country Club canceled, with no plans to reschedule at this time.
- The Yankton boys tennis quad is still scheduled to be played today in Yankton. If the courts are dry the event will be played as normal. However, if the courts are unusable the matches will be moved indoors to the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center. If moved inside Yankton will only have one duel against Harrisburg at 10:00 AM.
- At time of writing, Yankton baseball is still scheduled to play this evening in Dell Rapids at 6:00 PM
The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team currently sit 4th in the GPAC standings with a (13-7) conference record, only two games behind Morningside, Concordia, and Doane who are in a three-way tie atop the standings.
With only twelve games left before the GPAC tournament, the Lancers next opportunity to improve their standing is a double header tomorrow afternoon against Dordt. Game one from Sioux Center, Iowa is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
The Mount Marty Lancers softball team are 6th in the GPAC with an (8-6) record in conference play, as the regular season winds down towards the GPAC Tournament at the beginning of May.
The Lancers will make the trip to Fremont, NE for their next game as they battle Midland in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
Mount Marty Lancers women’s golf will compete in their final regular season invite, as they open the two-day Peru State Invite tomorrow afternoon. This is the last scheduled event for MMU before the GPAC Championships on May 1st-2nd.
Mount Marty men’s and women’s track and field are scheduled to be in Orange City, Iowa Friday and Saturday, as they take part in an invite hosted by Northwestern College. Day one of events begin at 1:00 PM, with Saturday’s action beginning at 9:00 AM.
