The Yankton Bucks baseball team did not make the trip to Dell Rapids last night as the game was canceled due to inclement weather. Yankton will now have to wait until Tuesday to retake the field, as they host Sioux Falls Roosevelt in a double header.
Today’s scheduled softball matchup between Yankton and Rapid City Stevens has been postponed until the first week of May. Next game for the Gazelles is now set for Monday, April 24th, as they host O’Gorman in a matchup that kicks off a run of four games in six days for Yankton.
The Yankton Bucks Tennis team are now 10 and 4 on the year, as they fell 6-3 in a duel with Harrisburg Thursday morning.
Zachary Briggs played a part in two of Yankton’s three points, as he won his singles duel, as well as his doubles match alongside Harrison Krajewski (Kra-ski). The other Yankton point came from Miles Krajewski, as he earned a singles win over Harrisburg’s Brayden Rausch (R-ow-sh).
The next scheduled duel for Yankton Tennis is against Rapid City Christian this morning at 9 AM, inside the NFAA Easton Yankton Archery Center.
The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team have had some changes made to their schedule, as this afternoon’s double header against Dordt has been postponed to Monday. MMU now turns their focus to a double header on Sunday as they host Jamestown, beginning at 1:00 PM.
The Mount Marty Softball team will hit the road this afternoon as they are scheduled to travel to Fremont, Nebraska for a double header against Midland.
The Lancers are 15 and 14 on the season and currently sit 6th in the GPAC standings. Midland are 2nd in the standings as they hold a 25 and 8 overall record on the year, First pitch of game one is set for 3:00 PM.
Today is day one of a two day event for the Mount Marty Lancers track and field squad, as they travel to Orange City, Iowa for a meet hosted by Northwestern College. Today’s events begin at 1:00 PM, with day two of the action starting at 9:00 AM Saturday morning.
The Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club hosted their three-day Challenge Cup last weekend, April 14th through 16th, and a Yankton student earned a top-5 finish in five separate events.
Iyanna Becker, an 8th grader at Yankton Middle School, finished 5th, 2nd, and took the top spot in three other events over the course of last weekend’s event in Sioux Falls. Becker is a multi-sport athlete for the Gazelles, who has already competed at the high school level despite being in 8th grade as she was a member of the Gazelles varsity soccer team last fall.
The South Dakota Coyotes women’s basketball team have made a new addition to their staff, as it was announced yesterday that Liz Oswald would take over as Director of Operations for the team.
Oswald spent the past two years as a graduate assistant coach for Eastern Illinois, as the Panthers went 31 and 22 during that stretch. When asked about Oswald, Coyote head coach Kayla Karius said “She comes highly regarded from people I trust in this profession.” adding “She is organized, highly motivated and will be a great fit for our program.”
Oswald joins the Coyote program in year two of Kayla Karius’ tenure as head coach. USD went 14 and 16, 10 and 8 in conference, last season, falling in the opening round of the Summit League Tournament.
