The Mount Marty Lancers baseball team wrapped up their regular season on Sunday with a sweep in their double header against Hastings College.
The Lancers took game one 4 to 2 and game two 12 to 5 as they ended the regular season with a 36 and 13 record, 19 and 9 in GPAC play. Billy Hancock led the Lancer bats as he went 4 for 7 with a home run over the two games. Pitchers Chris Rofe and Jared Miller earned the wins on the mound for MMU.
The 4th seeded Lancers will meet the 5th seeded Jamestown Jimmies in round one of the GPAC tournament in Crete, Nebraska on Thursday, May 4th. Mount Marty was swept by Jamestown when the teams met in a double header earlier this season.
Mount Marty softball split their double header with Doane over the weekend as they finished the regular season with a 17 and 20 record, 10 and 12 in GPAC play.
The Lancers dropped game one 5 to 1, but won game two 5 to 4. Abigail Page led MMU in the win as she went 3 for 4 with an RBI, while Hannah Keith earned the win in relief of starter Makayla Graunke.
The Lancers have qualified for the GPAC tournament as the 8th seed, as they’ll meet top seeded Northwestern College on Wednesday, May 3rd. The Lancers are 0 and 2 this season against the Red Raiders.
The GPAC women’s golf tournament will begin today in Spencer, Iowa, and the Mount Marty Lancers will compete in the event.
The event will take place over 2 days and be played over the course of 54-holes. Lancer sophomore Kelsey Heath leads MMU into the tournament, as she’s won GPAC women’s golfer of the week twice this season, one of four athletes to win the award multiple times this season.
Mount Marty men’s tennis ended their season with a 3 and 11 record following their first round exit in the GPAC tournament at the hands of Morningside last Friday.
Mount Marty men’s tennis’ 3 victories this season are the most in a single season for the young program. The Lancers also grabbed their first GPAC victory in program history earlier this season, when they defeated Hastings College 5 to 2.
The Yankton Bucks baseball team improved to 10 and 1 over the weekend following a pair of victories over Sioux Falls Washington and O’Gorman on Saturday.
The Bucks defeated Washington 13 to 3 in game one, and followed with a 13 to 8 victory over O’Gorman in game two. Jack Halsted and Jace McCorkell led the way in game one with 3 RBIs apiece, while Drew Ryken went 3 for 5 with 5 RBIs to secure the victory in game two.
The Bucks are back in action this evening as they host Sioux Falls Jefferson in a double header at Riverside Field. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM, pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 4:30. Bryce Ladwig and Brayden Butler will be on the call.
Yankton Gazelles Softball are now 6 and 3 on the year following their 15 to 0 weekend victory over Aberdeen Central.
Grace Behrns did it all for Yankton, pitching all 4 innings and securing the win on the mound with 7 strikeouts, while also going 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs at the plate.\
Next up for the Gazelles is a road matchup against the Vermillion Tanagers this evening. First pitch is set for 4:00 PM.
Yankton Bucks tennis return to the court today as they travel to Mitchell for a pair of duels. The Bucks will meet both the Pierre Governors and the Mitchell Kernels in the event.
Yankton Gazelles golf has had a change in their upcoming schedule, as tomorrow’s invitational in Mitchell has been canceled. The Gazelles will now compete in an invitational in Huron on Thursday.
Yankton high school track and field will compete in a triangular tomorrow in Mitchell. Yankton will meet Mitchell and O’Gorman in the event.
