Today is the opening day of the 2023 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals in Statesboro, Georgia, and the Mount Marty Lancers Archery team are well represented in the event.
Today’s action will consist of the women’s qualification round in all categories beginning this morning, with the men’s qualification taking place this afternoon. Representing the Lancers in the national meet are:
- Lindsey Bouffard, Alyssa Nelson, and Candace Romrell as Recurve Female Shooters
- Micheal Plummer and Lalit Jain as Recurve Male Shooters
- Alicia Aviles, Kinley Hetletved, Chloe Madison, Zoe Woods, Maren Sanders, and Isabelle Burley as Compound Female Shooters
- Griffen Wieneke, Brady Klassen, and Noah Cagle as Compound Male Shooters
- Savannah Chouinard as a Barebow Female Shooter

The Yankton Bucks Tennis team sit in fifth place overall with 183 points following day one of the class AA state tournament.
A trio of Bucks have advanced to the semifinals in singles action, while all three doubles teams can finish as high as fifth after day one. Zachary Briggs, Harrison Krajewski (Kra-ski) and Miles Krajewski will all compete in the semifinals in their respective singles flights. Also in singles action, Jack Pedersen and Christopher Rockne are still in the running for fifth in their flights, while Ethan Marsh will compete in the consolation final in flight 6.
The final day of action from Sioux Falls will begin at 10:30 AM this morning.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles track and field hosted a “last chance” meet at Williams Field yesterday that served as the final opportunity for athletes to post a qualifying mark ahead of next week’s state tournament.
Rugby Ryken and Dylan Payer led the Bucks as they posted their fastest times of the season in a pair of events. Ryken won the 400 meter run with a time of 49.72 seconds, his first time under 50 seconds this year, while Payer set a personal best in the 800, as he won the event with a time of 1 minute 55.06 seconds.
For the Gazelles, Tierney Faulk posted a pair of top-5 finishes in individual events, as she took 3rd in the 300 hurdles and 4th in the 100 hurdles. The Gazelles also ran well in the relay events, as all four relay teams finished top-3. Sydnee Serck, Gracie Gutzmann, Alivia Dimmer, and Shae Rumsey won the 1600 relay. The team of Serck, Dimmer, Rumsey, and September Rauch took 3rd in the 800 relay, and the Gazelles squad of Josslyn Elwood, Charleigh Madsen, Izzy Thiessen, and Iyana Becker were 3rd in the 400 relay.
The South Dakota State Track and Field Championships will take place at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, May 25th through 27th.
Yankton Gazelles softball ended their regular season last night as they fell to Sioux Falls Jefferson 8 to 4.
The Gazelles recorded eight total hits as a team, with Brooklyn Townsend and Tori Vellek getting two hits each, with Vellek also driving in a pair of RBI.
With the loss, the Gazelles end their year with an 11 and 7 overall record. As it stands, Yankton would be the 8 seed in next week’s SoDak 16, and would host #9 Rapid City Stevens at Sertoma Park. Final standings still pending the conclusion of the regular season for all class AA teams.
Today is the opening day of the Nebraska High School Track & Field State Championships, and athletes from several local schools will compete in the event.
Events will begin at 9:00 AM this morning, with the entirety of girls pole vault, discus and long jump, as well as the boys high jump, triple jump, shot put, 3200 meter run, and the 3200 meter relay competitions set to take place today, alongside prelims for hurdle and sprint events.
The rest of the state competition is scheduled to take place tomorrow. All events are held at Burke Stadium in Omaha.
The South Dakota Coyotes track and field team have sent a Summit League best 21 entries into next week’s NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento.
16 individuals and 1 relay team make up the entries for USD, as this is the sixth season in a row that the Coyotes have sent 19 or more entries to the West Prelims. 15 of the 21 entries are attributed to the Coyote women’s team that is currently ranked 30th in the latest Coaches Association poll, with the USD women’s 5 pole vault entries being tied with Arkansas for the most in the country.
The NCAA West Preliminaries will take place from May 24th through 27th.
