The 2023 Division B South Dakota JO Fast Pitch Softball State Tournament begins this evening in Sioux Falls with a matchup between TSC Blaze and Diamonds Elite. Both Yankton Fury Black and Fury Fire will compete in the event, beginning tomorrow morning.
Fury Fire will play first at 8:00 AM as they square off with Sanford White, while Fury Black will meet the winner of today’s game between TSC Blaze and Diamonds Elite.
This weekend’s tournament is a double elimination bracket that is scheduled to run through Sunday afternoon.
The Yankton Tappers Officially clinched the South Central League title last night, as they defeated Tabor 8 to 3.
Will Rauch went 2 for 5 with a home run, while Rugby Ryken tallied a pair of hits and drove in two runs en route to the win. Yankton pitchers Sam Schonberg and Cade Eymann combined for 11 strikeouts on the day, with Schonberg being credited with the win.
Also in South Central League play, Lesterville and Wynot combined for over thirty runs, as Lesterville took a slim victory, 16 to 15.

University of South Dakota defensive lineman Micah Roane (Row-n) was recognized for his contributions off the field yesterday, as he was one of 63 student-athletes from across the FCS, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA to be nominated for The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The Good Works Team recognizes athletes who are actively involved with a charitable organization or service group while maintaining strong academic standing.
Roane currently volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club of Yankton, and says that having the ability to positively impact kids’ lives makes it worth the time and effort involved.
The official bracket for the Region 3B American Legion Baseball Tournament in Elk Point was announced yesterday, as five teams will compete for a spot in the state tournament.
The tournament begins Sunday, with Tea and Elk Point-Jefferson meeting in game one, with the winner advancing to a game against Dakota Valley in game three, while Lennox and Vermillion square off in game two.
The tournament is scheduled to run through next Tuesday, and is formatted as a double elimination bracket.
