Yankton Post 12 will play their final regular season games this evening, as they meet Sioux Falls East and West in Sioux Falls. Game one against SF East is scheduled for a 5:00 PM first pitch, with game two against SF West to follow.
Yankton Fury Red and Fury Fire met on the softball diamond yesterday, with Fury Red earning the 14 to 5 victory.
Elle Feser led the way for Fury Red as she went 3-for-5 with a home run and 6 RBI in the win. Four pitchers took the mound for Fury Red, with Bailey Sample striking out 6 over her 3 and 2/3rds innings of work.
For Fury Fire, Emma Wiese, Hannah Christopherson and Shaelynn Puckett each tallied a pair of hits, while Andrea Miller had a triple and 2 RBI.
Yankton Fury Red is next scheduled for a trilogy of games on Friday, as they take on Nebraska Quakes, Sensations 18u, and Pride 06.
The USA Wrestling Junior and 16U National Championships took place in Fargo, North Dakota over the weekend, and Bon Homme-Scotland-Avon wrestlers Peyton Hellmann and Britney Rueb earned All-American honors at the event.
Both wrestlers competed in the 127 pound division, as Hellmann finished 4th overall, while Rueb took 6th place. Three other South Dakota wrestlers earned All-American nods, including Regina Stoeser of Harrisburg, Taylor Graveman of Spearfish, and Zoe Adam of Canton.
The Yankton Bucks golf team officially begins their season on August 7th, and registration is currently open to boys entering the 7th through 12th grades that are interested in joining the team.
Students can sign up online via a link provided on the Yankton School District Facebook page. Sign up can also be done in person, as Coach Sime and Coach Indahl will be available in room 235 at Yankton High School on Monday, July 24th, at 9:00 AM.
The University of South Dakota announced their 2023 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees yesterday, as six athletes will be enshrined in this year’s class.
This year’s group of Hall of Famers include, former Gayville-Volin standout and 2008 indoor and outdoor 800 meter national champion Emma Ladwig, 3-time All-American high and long jumper Paul Brozik, 6-time all-American pole vaulter Marci Gassen, 7-time All-American swimmer Leita Rolfe, multi-sport athlete Todd Poling, and the Coyotes’ all-time leader in receiving touchdowns, wide receiver Will Powell.
The official Hall of Fame ceremony for USD will take place on September 15th.
The University of Nebraska announced yesterday that 7 players and a former head coach would be inducted into the Huskers Football Hall of Fame this year.
The six former Huskers who make up this year’s class are defensive tackle David Clark, linebacker Troy Dumas, punter Sam Koch (Pronounced Cook), defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, quarterback Taylor Martinez, and offensive guard Spencer Long. Also inducted into the “Legends” category this year are head coach W.C. “King” Cole and quarterback Leon G. Warner.
