Francis Lange has been sentenced to three life sentences with no possibility of parole for a triple homicide in Scotland in 2021.
Lange pled guilty but mentally ill in May to the murders of his former girlfriend, Angela Monclova, her father, Librado Monclova, and Diane Akins. Two others were injured in the attack.
Vicki Monclova later died of her injuries but Lange was not charged in her death.
In addition to the life sentences, Lange was sentenced this morning of two counts of aggravated assault which carry 15 year sentences each.
Lange appeared this morning in Bon Homme County court before judge Cheryle Gering.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says a guilty but mentally ill plea carries the same peril as a guilty plea, but allows for mental treatment for Lange while he is incarcerated.
