The Yankton Black Sox were crowned the 16-under Class A State Baseball Champions yesterday, as they defeated Brandon Valley 12 to 10 in the title game.

            Sam Gokie went 4 for 5 with a pair of RBI, while Easton Feser added four RBI of his own to lead the Black Sox to the win.

            Yankton went 37 and 3 during their run to the 16u state title, with only one loss coming to an in-state opponent.

            The Class A Senior Legion baseball tournament took place last week in Yankton, and Harrisburg Post 45 Gold were crowned champions on Saturday, following their 3 to 2 victory over Brookings.

            Coen (Co-in) Cook hit a walkoff double in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game for Harrisburg, while pitcher Eli Kokenge (Co-Kenj) was named Tournament MVP. With the victory, Harrisburg Gold have qualified for the Central Plains Regional Tournament, and will represent South Dakota alongside the host team, Rapid City Post 22.

            The Central Plains regional officially begins on Wednesday, in Rapid City.

Yankton Post 12’s Junior Legion team were eliminated from the Junior State Tournament on Saturday, as they fell to Sioux Falls East 8 to 3.

            Yankton ended the season with an 18 and 22 record. Sioux Falls East would go on to win the Junior State Tournament, defeating Watertown 13 to 0 in their final game.

            Tabor Post 183 kept their state title hopes alive yesterday, as they defeated Clark-Willow Lake Post 60 13 to 1.

            Landon Bares led the way at the plate for Tabor, as he went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Landon Schmidt got the win on the mound as he allowed one hit over four innings, and struck out seven batters.

Class B Legion Baseball State Tournament Results (Day 3):

  • Tabor defeated Clark-Willow Lake 13 to 1
  • Dell Rapids defeated Redfield 8 to 5.
  • Elk Point-Jefferson defeated Salem-Montrose-Canova 5 to 3.

            The South Dakota State Class A Amateur Baseball Tournament begins on Friday in Yankton, and the Yankton Tappers will play in the opening game against the Sioux Falls Brewers.

            The Tappers and Brewers will meet at 5:30 PM on Friday, with game two of the tournament between the Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels and the Black Hills A’s following at 8:00.

            The Crofton Bluejays are the 2023 South Dakota Amateur Baseball District 6B Champions, following their 8 to 4 victory over Tabor Saturday evening.

            Crofton has qualified for the Class B Amateur state tournament. Despite the loss, Tabor has also earned a spot in the state tournament.

            Tabor will open their tournament on Thursday with a game against Akron, while Crofton won’t play their first tournament game until Saturday against Hartford-Humboldt.
