The Yankton Gazelles volleyball team picked up their first home win of the season last night, knocking off a Huron squad that entered the contest 3rd in class AA, 3 sets to 1.

            Macy Drotzmann and Camille McDermott led the way for the Gazelles, as Drotzmann recorded 17 kills to lead the team, while McDermott tallied 33 assists.

            The Gazelles hit the road for their next matchup, as they travel to Mitchell to face the Kernels on Saturday.

            The Yankton Bucks and Gazelles soccer teams swept Huron in their double header yesterday afternoon, with the Bucks winning 3 to 2, and the Gazelles shutting out the Tigers 4 to nothing.

            Jack Pedersen (Ped-ersen) scored a brace for the Bucks, with their third goal coming from freshman winger Tony Guitron (Goo-tron). The Bucks are now 6,2, and 1 on the year.

            Four different Gazelles scored in their win, as Iyana Becker, Keira Christ (Crist), Eleanor Johnson, and Chloe Blom all found the back of the net. The Gazelles are now 4,4, and 1 following yesterday’s victory.

            Next up for both teams is a home double header against Mitchell tomorrow night, beginning at 4:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 2:30.

            Mount Marty volleyball fell to 9 and 6 on the year last night, as they were defeated by Mayville State University in a 4-set match.

            Mia Furst, Julia Weber, and Athena Stanton all recorded double digit kills for the Lancers, while Ally Whitmire led the team in assists with 38.

            The Lancers will be back in action tonight, as they are on the road in Omaha to face the College of St. Mary

Yankton Gazelles tennis fell in both matches of their triangular yesterday, as Mitchell won 7 to 2, with Sioux Falls Lincoln taking a 7 to 0 sweep.

            Nora Krajewski (Kra-ski) was undefeated in the Gazelles matchup with Mitchell, winning her singles duel, as well as her doubles match alongside Sabrina Krajewski (Kra-ski).

            The Gazelles return home on Thursday, as they host Rapid City Christian and Sioux Falls Christian at the YHS tennis courts.

            Yankton competitive cheer and dance competed at Brandon Valley High School yesterday, as the dance team took 5th, with the cheer squad finishing 10th in the event.

            Yankton posted a score of 248.5 in dance and 188.5 in cheer. Brandon Valley would take home the team title in dance, with Sioux Falls Jefferson claiming the cheer title.

            Yankton will next compete in the Brookings Invitational on Saturday.

Mount Marty men’s golf finished third in the Jimmie Invitational following yesterday’s final round of competition.

            The Lancers shot a 948 as a team, while Concordia-Moorhead won the event with a score of 892. Bennett Cassens was the highest individual finisher for MMU, as he took 12th in the event, followed by Ted Bengston in 16th, and Wout Kerkhofs, who tied for 17th.

            The Lancer men will next compete in the Buena Vista Invitational, September 17th and 18th in Storm Lake, Iowa.

            Mount Marty men’s and women’s soccer will host Doane this evening for a double header at Crane-Youngworth Field. The men play first at 5:00 PM, with the women taking the field at 7:15.

Mount Marty men’s and women’s tennis will be in action today as they are on the road against Buena Vista University. The men enter the contest 1 and 0 on the year, while this will be the season opener for the women.

The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting today at the River Rock Event Center on Broadway.

This week’s featured guest speaker is Wayne State head football coach Logan Master. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM noon.
