The Yankton Bucks football team suffered their first loss of the season last Friday night, as they were defeated by the Pierre Governors 27-14.
Yankton are now 3 and 1 on the season. Quarterback Lucas Kampshoff threw for over 200 yards and both of Yankton’s touchdowns in the loss, with Peyton Peterson hauling in 2 catches for 64 yards and a touchdown.
The Bucks will be on the road this Friday, as they travel to Tea for a meeting with the Titans.
The Mount Marty Lancers football team fell to 2 and 2 on Saturday, taking a 47 to 17 road loss to Morningside.
The Lancers only trailed by 10-points entering the 4th quarter, before a late Morningside surge put the game out of reach. Mount Marty quarterback Ken Gay threw for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss, while running back Isaiah Thompson had over 160 yards of total offense.
Mount Marty returns home this week, as they host Northwestern College at Crane-Youngworth Field.
Yankton Gazelles volleyball fell to Mitchell over the weekend, as the Kernels took a 4-set home victory.
Macy Drotzmann and Camryn Koletzky each had a dozen kills for the Gazelles, while Camille McDermott posted 35 assists in the loss.
The Gazelles will be on the road for their next match, as they meet Sioux Falls Lincoln tomorrow night.
Mount Marty volleyball fell to 9 and 8 on the year on Saturday, as they were defeated by Midland in 3-sets.
The Lancers are now 2 and 2 in GPAC play with the loss. Julia Weber led the team in kills with 14, and aces with 2, while Ally Whitmire tallied 28 assists for Mount Marty.
Next up for the Lancers is a road matchup with Concordia on Wednesday.
Mount Marty men’s and women’s soccer were swept by Concordia University in their double header on Saturday.
The men’s game ended 3 to 0, while the final score for the women was 8 to 1, both in favor of the Bulldogs.
The MMU women return to the field on Wednesday, as they are on the road against the College of St. Mary, while the Lancer men are off until their meeting with Briar Cliff on Sunday.
Yankton Gazelles tennis split their pair of matches against Spearfish and Sioux Falls Jefferson in Mitchell over the weekend.
Yankton defeated Spearfish 7 to 2, and fell to Sioux Falls Jefferson 6 to 3. Nora and Sabrina Krajewski (Kra-ski) went undefeated on the day, as each went 2 and 0 in singles and doubles competition. Also picking up singles wins on the day were Evelyne Lima-Zapon, Karalyn Koerner and Meagan Scott.
Next up for Yankton is a home triangular against Sioux Falls Washington and Harrisburg on Thursday.
Yankton competitive cheer and dance competed in an event in Brookings over the weekend.
Yankton posted a team score of 266.75 in the dance competition to finish on the podium in the 15-team field, while their cheer score of 203 earned them an 8th-place finish out of 19-teams. Brandon Valley claimed the dance title in the event, with Harrisburg taking the top spot in cheer.
Yankton travels to Huron for their next competition tomorrow night. Events begin at 5:00 PM.
Mount Marty women’s golf is scheduled to begin the NW Iowa National Invitational today in Le Mars, Iowa. The 2-day invitational will be held at Willow Creek in Le Mars, tee time is scheduled for 10:00 AM this morning.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles soccer will be on the road tomorrow afternoon for a double header against the Pierre Governors. The boys game will take place first at 4:00 PM, with the girls game scheduled to begin at 6:00.
Yankton Bucks golf will be in action tomorrow morning for an invitational in Watertown. Tee time is set for 10:00 AM.
The Yankton United Girls u11/12 soccer team won their division championship during the Yankton Fall Invitational over the weekend. Yankton defeated the So Dak Spurs out of Brookings to be crowned division champions.
The South Dakota Coyotes football team moved to 2 and 1 on Saturday, as they defeated Lamar University 35 to 6.
The Coyotes ran for over 300 yards as a team, as Travis Theis (Tice) and Nate Thomas each recorded a pair of rushing touchdowns.
USD will be on the road this week, as they open conference play against North Dakota State in Fargo.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits cruised to a 70 to 7 victory over Drake on Saturday, as they are now 3 and 0 on the year.
SDSU quarterback Mark Gronowski threw for 5 touchdowns in the win, while adding a 6th TD on the ground. The Jackrabbits open conference play this week, as they host North Dakota on Saturday
