Yankton Gazelles volleyball picked up their second straight 3-set sweep last night, as they defeated the Beresford Watchdogs.
Yankton’s attack was clicking all match long, but it was their defense that sealed the deal. as Brynn Kenney blocked a Beresford kill attempt for the deciding point in set three.
Gazelles Final Point – (:23) “… 3-sets to nothing.”
Individually, Camille McDermott led the Gazelles in assists with 28, while Macy Drotzmann had 12 kills, followed by Ava Koller (Collar) with 9 and Camryn Koletzky with 7.
The Gazelles begin their East-West Tournament in Yankton later this week. Starting with a pair of matches against Spearfish and Sturgis on Friday, before hosting Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens, and Douglas on Saturday.
Yankton Bucks football remains 2nd in the latest class 11-AA media polls, heading into their regular season finale on Thursday against Huron.
Pierre maintains the top spot in the class, with Tea, Watertown, and Aberdeen Central rounding out the top-5 in that order.

Yankton Bucks soccer had three players selected by the South Dakota High School Soccer Coaches Association yesterday as part of the 2023 All-State soccer team for class-AA. Lance Dannenbring was named to the All-State 1st team, with Ty Binde (Bendy) and Christian Pacheco on the 2nd team.
All three players were also announced yesterday as members of the Eastern South Dakota All-Conference team. The Bucks finished the 2023 campaign as the ESD conference champions, and made it to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.
Mount Marty volleyball are hosting their “Pink Out” tonight, as they welcome Dakota State to town for their final non-conference match of the season.
The Lancers come in with a 10 and 16 record on the year, with first serve from Cimpl Arena set for 7:00 PM.
The Yankton Quarterback Club will host their weekly meeting tomorrow at noon at the River Rock Event Center on Broadway.
This week’s featured guest speaker will be Mount Marty men’s basketball coach Collin Authier, as the Lancers open the 2023 season at the end of the month.
South Dakota Coyotes placekicker Will Leyland was honored yesterday as Missouri Valley Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, following his game-winning 41-yard field goal against Youngstown State on Saturday.
Leyland, a Souderton, Pennsylvania native, went 2-for-2 on field goals on Saturday, setting a new career long of 41-yards with his game winner. Leyland is currently 6-for-6 on field goals this season for the Coyotes.
USD is on the road this weekend for a matchup with Indiana State.
