The class 11-AA football state playoffs begin tomorrow, and the Yankton Bucks enter the postseason as the #2 seed with an 8 and 1 record.
The Bucks will square off with the Huron Tigers tomorrow night at Crane-Youngworth field. The two teams ended the regular season against each other just last week, with the Bucks taking a 56 to 21 win.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM tomorrow night. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:00. Bryce Ladwig and Josh Boelter will be on the call.
Yankton Gazelles volleyball picked up their 8th straight win last night, as they swept the Tea Area Titans in three sets.
The Gazelles have only dropped one set during their 8 match win streak. Macy Drotzmann led the team in kills last night with 7, followed by Ava Koller (Collar) with 6. Both players added 12 digs and 2 service aces as well. Camille McDermott led in assists with 29.
The Gazelles will be at home for the final time in the regular season on October 31st against the Brookings Bobcats.
Yankton High School athletes Madison Ryken and Sarah Beeman were honored yesterday as members of the All-State Competitive Dance team following the 2023 season.
Ryken and Beeman were selected for the honor by the South Dakota Dance Coaches Association. The pair were key members of the Gazelles dance team that finished third in the Class AA State Tournament last weekend.
Multiple Yankton High School athletes across the cross country and competitive cheer & dance programs were honored yesterday as members of the Academic All-State teams.
For cheer, Aliya Fluke and Kyndle Kennedy were both honored. Kennedy was also honored for dance, as all seven Gazelles were named to the team. Joining Kennedy were Katie Schulte, Sarah Beeman, Madelyn Eidsness, Madison Ryken, Madeline Wintz, and Alexis Klimek.
For cross country, four members of the Bucks and Gazelles teams were selected, as Dylan Payer, Caden Wieman, Shae Rumsey, Claire Tereshinski were all honored. To be honored, a senior member of the team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and have participated for at least three seasons.
Mount Marty women’s basketball announced yesterday that they would be moving their season opener from October 27th to the 28th, following the cancellation of the Lancers game against Calvary University.
The Lancers will now open their season against Barclay College. The game will be contested following the conclusion of the Lancer men’s basketball opener on Saturday.
Former South Dakota Coyotes men’s basketball standout Stanley Umude (Uh-moo-day) signed with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons yesterday on a two-way contract.
Umude had appeared in four preseason games for the Pistons before being signed to the deal, as he averaged 9.3 points over 17 minutes per game. Umude had played for the Pistons G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise, last season, averaging 15.4 points and 4.8 rebounds over 25 games.
Two-way contracts allow players to play for both an NBA organization and their G-League affiliate during the course of a season. Each NBA team is allowed up to three two-way contracts each year.
