Yankton High School Track and Cross Country standout Dylan Payer announced on Wednesday that he would continue his athletic and academic career at Coastal Carolina University.

            Payer says the choice of Coastal Carolina, which is located in Conway, South Carolina, was a difficult one to make. Payer also talked about how this past season was a whirlwind for him as a runner, and how it helped him get on the radar of colleges across the country.

            Payer says he will be part of both the track & field and cross country programs at the next level. Coastal Carolina is an NCAA Division I institution that currently competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

            Yankton Bucks Football will compete for the Class 11-AA State Title tomorrow night, as they take on the Pierre Governors inside the DakotaDome.

            The Bucks are making their return to the Dome, having won their last two trips to the championship game in 2014 and 2015. Opposite of Yankton, Pierre has won a record tying six straight state titles. A seventh would break the record for most consecutive titles in state history.

            Kickoff from Vermillion is set for 7:00 PM Friday night. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV will begin at 5:00. Bryce Ladwig and Josh Boelter will be on the call.

            Yankton Gazelles Volleyball will be on the road this evening as they take on the Sioux Falls Washington Warriors in the SoDak 16.

            Yankton enter the SoDak as the #14 seed, while Washington is the #3 seed. The winner will compete in next week’s Class AA State Tournament in Rapid City.

            First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM, pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Brayden Butler will be on the call.

Mount Marty Women’s Basketball fell to 2 and 2 last night, as they were defeated by Dakota State 87 to 63.

            The Lancers are off until next Monday night, when they make the trip to Sioux Falls to take on the University of Sioux Falls.

Mount Marty Men’s Basketball were defeated by North Dakota State last night 93 to 66, in what was an exhibition game for the Lancers.

            Micah Johnson and Tash Lunday tied for the team high in points with 12 each. Rugby Ryken and Zander Benz also cracked double digits, as each tallied 10 points in the loss.

            The Lancers are off until next Wednesday night, when they open GPAC play against Dordt.

            The Avon Pirates will play in the opening game of day one of the South Dakota High School Football State Championships today, as they play Faulkton Area for the 9-B title.

            The 9-B Championship will be the first of today’s three title matchups in the DakotaDome. Avon and Faulkton Area will play at 10:00 AM, Class 9-A Warner and Deubrook Area will play at 2:00 PM, and Class 9-AA Parkston vs Howard will end the day at 7:00 PM.

            The Crofton Warriors football team will compete in the Class D1 semifinals tomorrow night, as they host the Exeter-Milligan/Friend (EMF) Bobcats, with a trip to Lincoln on the line.

            The Wynot Blue Devils football team will take on Howells-Dodge tomorrow night in the Class D2 semifinals with a spot in the State Title game in Lincoln up for grabs. Wynot won the regular season matchup between the two teams, 32 to 26

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball picked up their first win of the season last night, as they defeated Dakota Wesleyan University 83 to 55.

            Zeke Mayo and Kyle William III both recorded a double-double in the win, with Mayo scoring a game high 28 to lead the Jacks.

            SDSU, now 1 and 1 on the year, will be on the road for their next game, as they take on Kansas State on Monday.

            South Dakota Men’s Basketball will be in Sioux Falls tomorrow night, as they take on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the Sanford Pentagon. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM.

            South Dakota Women’s Basketball will be on the road tomorrow, as they take on the #22 ranked Creighton Blue Jays in Omaha, Nebraska. Tip off is scheduled for 11:30 AM.
