Mount Marty Men’s Basketball fell to South Dakota State last night 90 to 72, in what was an exhibition game for the Lancers.
The Lancers captured their first lead of the game in the first half, as 5 points and a steal in quick succession from Cole Bowen put the Lancers in front of the NCAA Division I opposition

The Lancers would enter the halftime break tied at 41 with SDSU before the Jackrabbits pulled away late. Bowen would end the night with a game high 22 points. Tash Lunday added 17 points and a team high 8 rebounds for the Lancers.
Mount Marty returns home tomorrow night against Dakota State in the second half of a men and women’s double header. The Lancer women host the College of St. Mary in game one at 6:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 5:30. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.
Camille McDermott has become the first All-State Volleyball selection for Yankton High School since 2015, as she’s been selected to the 2nd team.
Camille McDermott ended her Gazelles career this season as the all-time leader in assists, digs, and aces for YHS. She added 676 assists, 289 digs, 58 ace serves, 85 kills and 20 blocks to her impressive resume last season.
McDermott will continue to play indoor, as well as beach volleyball, at the next level, as she has signed on with Spring Hill College in Alabama.
Yankton Gymnastics begin their 2023 season tonight, as they host an invitational at the River City Gymnastics Center in Yankton.
The meet will be a triangular between Yankton, Mitchell & Parkston/Ethan/Hanson, beginning at 5:30 PM this evening.
USD linebacker Brock Mogensen and head coach Bob Nielsen were honored yesterday by the Missouri Valley Football Conference, as Nielsen was named the conference Coach of the Year, while Mogensen was selected as the MVFC Defensive Player of the Year.
Under Nielsen’s coaching, The Coyotes flipped the script in a single off-season, as they went from a 3-8 record last year and a 9th place finish in the conference, to a 9-2 record this season, finishing 2nd in the valley, and earning the #3 seed in the FCS Playoffs. The first time in program history that USD earned a top-8 seed.
Mogensen led a Coyote defense that held seven of ten FCS opposing offenses to seven points or fewer. Individually, Mogensen led the MVFC with 85 tackles in conference play, and his 103 tackles during the regular season ranked 20th in the country. Mogensen is the 2nd Coyote to win the award, joining linebacker Tyler Starr who captured the award in 2013.
USD football had a program record 7 players earn all-conference honors yesterday, led by a trio of first team defenders in linebacker Brock Mogensen, cornerback Myles Harden and defensive end Brendan Webb.
Wide receiver Carter Bell, running back Travis Theis, center Joey Lombard and placekicker Will Leyland were all named as second team all-MVFC as well, while linebacker Stephen Hillis, tight end JJ Galbreath (Gall-Breath), offensive guard Isaac Erbes (Er-biss), defensive tackle Nick Gaes and safety Dennis Shorter earned honorable mentions.
The Coyotes will play in the second round of the FCS Playoffs on Saturday, as they host Sacramento State inside the DakotaDome.
The Yankton Quarterback Club will resume their weekly meetings tomorrow following last week’s break due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Tomorrow’s meeting will be held at 12:00 PM noon at the River Rock Event Center in Yankton. This week’s featured guest speakers are South Dakota State Head Men’s Basketball Coach Eric Henderson and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Aaron Johnston.
South Dakota Coyotes Men’s Basketball are at home this evening, as they host Waldorf University inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. Tip off is slated for 7:00 PM.
South Dakota Women’s Basketball will host Northern Iowa tomorrow night in Vermillion. The Coyotes enter the contest at 4 and 3 on the year, looking for their second straight win. Tip off is set for 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
South Dakota State Men’s Basketball picked up a 92 to 70 win over Mount Marty last night, inside Frost Arena.
Luke Appel (Apple) led the way for SDSU, as he scored a team high 16 points, and added 4 rebounds to his stat sheet. Yankton High School alum Matthew Mors added 9 points, 3 boards, and 2 steals off the bench in the win.
The Jackrabbits, now 3 and 4 on the year, will play their next game at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, as they take on Towson on Friday.
South Dakota State Women’s Basketball are 3 and 2 on the year, as they prepare to host Washburn tonight in Brookings. Tip off between the Jackrabbits and the Ichabods is set for 7:00 PM this evening.
