The University of South Dakota has announced that they have hired Dakota State’s Jon Schemmel as their new Athletic Director.
Schemmel, who has served as DSU’s President and CEO since 2021, previously spent time in Vermillion as the university’s Senior Associate AD from 2012-2017.
Schemmel said Wednesday that “My family and I are ecstatic to return to USD and the Vermillion community. This is truly a full-circle moment for us. To have the opportunity to come back to a place that has meant the world to me and my family is incredibly exciting and humbling.”
Schemmel takes over the role left by former AD David Herbster, who parted ways with the university in August.
Schemmel will assume his new position effective January 2nd.
