Mount Marty Baseball was swept in their doubleheader against Morningside, losing game one 4 to 0 and game two 5 to 2.
The Lancers were held to 3 hits in game one, two of which came from Ethan Wishon, who finished the game 2 for 3.
Wishon went 3 for 3 in game two as well. Shugo Kondo went 1 for 2 with a home run, while Vaughn Deming brought in the other run with an RBI in the 4th.
The Lancers were supposed to finish their series against Morningside today, but that doubleheader has been postponed to a later date.
Mount Marty Softball travels to Jamestown, North Dakota tomorrow for a GPAC doubleheader against the Jamestown Jimmies.
The Lancers are coming off of back-to-back wins in their sweep of Dakota Wesleyan earlier this week, while Jamestown rides a two-game win streak of their own.
First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM tomorrow with game two to follow.
Mount Marty Men’s Tennis fell to Morningside in their duel on Wednesday, as the Mustangs took a 7 to 0 sweep over the Lancers.
The loss marks the first time the Lancer men have been swept this season. Mount Marty is currently 7 and 2 this season, already setting a program record for wins in a single year.
The Lancers are scheduled to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska tomorrow for a duel with Nebraska Wesleyan.
Mount Marty Women’s Tennis was defeated by Morningside yesterday in Sioux City, with the Mustangs taking a 7 to 0 sweep.
The Lancers are now 2 and 3 on the year following the loss. The victory moved the Mustangs to 9 and 3.
The Lancers are scheduled to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska tomorrow for their next duel against Nebraska Wesleyan.
Mount Marty Cheer Coach Joe Erickson was honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference, as he has been selected as a Co-Coach of the Year. This is the 2nd time in as many years that Erickson has won at least a share of the award.
Yankton Bucks and Gazelles Track and Field are scheduled to compete in their 2nd indoor meet of the season today, hosted by Mount Marty University. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM.
Yankton Bucks Tennis opens up their 2024 campaign on the road today with a pair of duels in Rapid City.
The Bucks will face Rapid City Christian at 2:00 PM Mountain time, followed by a duel with Rapid City Central at 5:00.
Yankton Gazelles Softball begins their season tomorrow, taking on O’Gorman in Sioux Falls.
Yankton ended with a 13 and 9 record and a state tournament berth last season, finishing 7th in the tournament with a 6 to 2 win over O’Gorman.
First pitch from Sioux Falls is scheduled for 2:00 PM tomorrow.
The 36th Annual 3-Class Shootout basketball All-Star game will be held on March 30th. All three classes in both boys and girls will be represented by many of the top seniors in South Dakota, including Yankton’s Landon Potts and Claire Tereshinski.
Potts joins the “AA” Boys team after a senior season that saw him named ESD All-Conference and average just under 17 points per game. Tereshinski will be part of the “AA” Girls team. She was an All-ESD Honorable Mention last season as the Gazelles’ leading scorer, and recently signed with Mount Marty University to continue her basketball career.
The 3-Class Shootout will be held at the McCook Central Auditorium in Salem, South Dakota, on March 30th.
Multiple area student-athletes were honored by the Nebraska State Athletic Association recently as Academic All-State selections for winter activities.
To be selected as Academic All-State, a nominated student must be a varsity player or organizational leader who has played a significant role on the team or in the organizational activity during the seasons for which nominations are accepted and maintain a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 93% or 3.7 on a 4.0-point scale.

South Dakota State Men’s Basketball had their season come to an end yesterday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, as they were eliminated by Iowa State 82 to 65.
Zeke Mayo led the Jackrabbits in scoring with 19 points in the loss. William Kyle III added 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.
SDSU ends the season with a Summit League Championship with a 22 and 13 record.
The #12-seeded South Dakota State Women’s Basketball will take on #5 Utah tomorrow night in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Jackrabbits just completed their 2nd straight undefeated season in Summit League play, ending the year on a 21-game win streak at 27 and 5. Utah enters the tournament at 22 and 10.
Tipoff from the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, Washington is set for 9:00 PM tomorrow night.
South Dakota Women’s Basketball host UC Riverside tonight inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for round one of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
The Coyotes are 21 and 12 on the year entering their 6th WNIT in program history, winning the tournament back in 2016. UC Riverside are 18 and 13 so far this year, including a 13 and 7 record in the Big West Conference.
Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM this evening.
