Yankton Bucks Baseball swept Huron in their doubleheader on Saturday, winning game one 11 to 0 in 5 innings, and game two 10 to 1.
Matthew Sheldon went 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI in game one. Frankie Intveld got the win on the mound. Pitching three scoreless innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 5.
Lucas Kampshoff and Owen Wishon tied for a team-high 2 RBI in game two. Kael Garry got the win on the mound. Striking out 7 batters over 4 innings of relief.
Yankton had their matchup against Brookings that was scheduled for yesterday postponed. Next up for the Bucks is a doubleheader against Brandon Valley on Thursday, beginning at 5:00 PM at Riverside Field.
Mount Marty Baseball split their doubleheader against the Dordt Defenders last Friday, winning game one 5 to 0 before dropping game two 8 to 5.
Joe Gokie and Kiko Nunez each recorded 2 RBI in game one. Jared Miller got the win on the mound, pitching six scoreless innings and striking out 10 batters.
Will Gardner tallied a pair of RBI and a run scored in game two. The Defenders would score 7 runs between the 7th and 8th innings to take the lead and the win.
MMU is back in action today. They were scheduled for a road matchup with the Jamestown Jimmies, but those games will now be held at Riverside Field in Yankton beginning at 2:00 PM. Pregame coverage on KYNT and KYNTV begins at 1:30. Tehl Tanner will be on the call.
Yankton Gazelles Softball plays their first of four games this week today, as they host the Sioux Falls Roosevelt Rough Riders at Sertoma Park in Yankton.
The Gazelles are 0 and 2 on the year following a loss in their last game to Harrisburg last week, while Roosevelt is 1 and 2 following their 8 to 7 win over O’Gorman on Friday.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM this evening.
Mount Marty Softball was scheduled to host Hastings College on Saturday for a doubleheader, but those games have been postponed. Those games will now be held tomorrow at Sertoma Park in Yankton. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Mount Marty Athlete Alexus Motley set a new school record in the Javelin throw at the USD Early Bird Meet with a toss of 123 feet 10 inches, 14.5 feet longer than the previous record.
Also at the meet Edwin Nyamutswa and Marcus Jnoffinn finished 3rd and 4th overall in the 100-meter dash, the two fastest of any GPAC competitors. Also leading GPAC participants was Mason Schleis in the Men’s Decathlon, followed by Michael Beyer in 2nd.
Next up for MMU is the Sioux City Relays on April 12th and 13th, as well as the South Dakota Challenge on April 13th.
Yankton Bucks Tennis remained undefeated on Friday, picking up a pair of 9 to 0 sweeps over Sioux Falls Jefferson and Milbank.
Yankton now has sweeps in 7 of their 9 victories so far this season and holds a 9 and 0 overall record.

Mount Marty Women’s Tennis snapped a 23-match losing streak in GPAC play on Sunday, defeating Doane 4 to 3.
The Lancers secured their first conference win since 2021, sweeping the doubles matches while splitting with Doane in singles play.
Mount Marty, 4 and 4 on the year, hosts Hastings for their next match on Saturday.
Mount Marty Men’s Tennis dropped their first GPAC match of the season yesterday, as they were defeated by Doane 4 to 3.
Doane swept doubles play during the duals, while the two schools spilt the six singles matches that were played.

The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame has announced nineteen new inductees into their 2024 class, including Tyndall Track and Field pioneer Sally Plihal.
Plihal helped Tyndall capture State Track and Field titles in 1969 and 1970, the first two years the sport was sanctioned in the state. Plihal won state titles in the 70-yard hurdles and high jump in 1969, before repeating for both in 1970, also winning the long jump title that season.
At the National level, Plihal claimed high jump titles in the AAU Junior Nationals in 1969 and AAU Nationals in 1970, before going on to compete as a member of the United States Track and Field team.
