Yankton High School Senior Tommy Brinkerhoff received a full-ride scholarship to Southeast Technical College on Tuesday through the Build Dakota Scholarship Fund.
Brinkerhoff will use the scholarship to study Law Enforcement Science in College. Brinkerhoff says that he has wanted to work in law enforcement since he first watched “COPS” as a child.
Brinkerhoff, who is currently an intern for the Yankton Police Department, is the first Build Dakota Scholarship recipient for the YPD.
Yankton Police Chief Jason Foote says the ball got rolling on the first-of-its-kind scholarship last year.
Upon his college graduation, Brinkerhoff is slated to return to Yankton and assume a role with the YPD.
