Wednesday was day two in the trial of David Phillips, 20, of Louisiana, who is facing a second-degree murder charge in the death of Israel Matos-Colon, 31, of Michigan, along with charges of possession of a stolen firearm, and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony back in March of 2023.
The state called on five more witnesses Wednesday, including; Cedar County Sheriff Larry Koranda, Tyler Mann with the Nebraska State Patrol, as well as Tyler Yow, Nathan Anderson, and Kevin Warner, who were all working on site on the day of Matos-Colon’s death.
Anderson and Warner both testified that after Phillips allegedly shot Matos-Colon, Phillips allegedly asked them both if they were going to tell anybody what happened.
Tyler Mann, who was the lead investigator on the case, was asked to display six 9 mm shell casings and a live round from the murder weapon for the jury, which was a Glock 19 with an extended mag.
According to the state, they will call on five more witnesses Thursday.
